debbs0723 Posted December 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2013 Hi all. I decided about 2 hours ago that I'm booking the Allure for me and a bunch of other family members next November. Thing is I'm trying to book on the wow sale today. Right now it looks like we are just going for the cheapest category since we are never in our rooms. I think that is category M. (could be wrong). I have two girls 10 and 13 at the time of the trip. I will probably let the older one jet off just a little by herself to get pizza or icecream or walk around the shops. We did this on the Navigator but I've never been on a ship so crazy huge as the Allure. Any suggestions on general location I should ask for placement on the ship? Thanks, Debbie
dacsmom Posted December 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2013 I am on the Allure in October and I chose Deck 9 because there are cabins above and below (less noise) and you can walk to just about every other deck and not have to wait on an elevator. joand452 Posted December 4, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2013 You will love Allure! At least we did. :D We usually try to book cabins near the elevators/stairs, but usually deck 8 or 9. Last December we booked late and chose a balcony cabin on deck 6 on Explorer. It was so convenient to the Royal Promenade, so maybe you might want to be on deck 5 (where the Allure's RP is), to give your older DD that little bit of freedom. Adventure Ocean is on deck 14, all the way forward. So, anyway, my suggestion is for something mid-ship, maybe deck 5 or 6. The ship is huge when looking at it from the ground, but once you're on it, it doesn't feel that big -- or crowded. Crowd control is well done. Have you looked at the deck plans? http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/ship/decks/deck/home.do?shipCode=AL That's always a good first start. Do come back and let us know what you've chosen!
debbs0723 Posted December 4, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 4, 2013 Thank you both. No, I have not even had a chance to look at deck plans. I usually spend WAYYY more time planning something. I've seen video after video of this ship but I have absolutely no idea what is where. I think I'll find out where the promenade is and ask for something around deck 8 or 9 by the elevators as suggested. It's weird not spending hours picking out a location but i'm not really sure how much it matters on a huge ship like this. We booked pretty late on the Navigator last year and got one of the last rooms available and it was fine. Thanks, Debbie
dacsmom Posted December 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) I like to spend many months obsessively planning and driving myself crazy. Here are some main points: Deck 4 - Casino, Studio B Deck 5 - Promenade, Sorrentos pizza, cupcake cupboard Deck 6 - Hot dog stand, Carousel, Donut shop, Johnny Rockets Deck 11 - Library Deck 14 - Adventure Ocean Deck 15 - Kids pool, Arcade, sports court Deck 16 - Zip Line, Flowrider Edited December 4, 2013 by dacsmom

I like to do that as well. However, it looks like now there are only deck 3 mid ship options left in that category. I'm not sure whether it is worth the $200 some odd bump just to get the same type room but on a different floor. That sounds like fun money to me. Thoughts? dacsmom Posted December 4, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2013 My only reservation with deck 3 would be if it is directly under the casino. Then I would probably find something else. If not I would save the $200 and take a deck 3 stateroom
debbs0723 Posted December 5, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted December 5, 2013 Well.... CRAPSCICLES. That is all they have left is deck 3 under the casino. Looks like I'm even extremely limited on the upgrade that will cost me $200 more than it jumps up greatly. I wonder how bad it will be. We usually hit the pillow and knock out (sometimes advil pm helps with that also). Jeez.... a year in advance I did not think my options on such a large ship would be so limited. debbs0723 Posted December 5, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted December 5, 2013 I guess my travel agent did not think staying under the casino was the best idea either. I went ahead and upgraded and had the choice between 6 and 7 midship. I picked 6 because he said there were more rooms open on that deck for family members that will eventually join us and try to get a close by room and because it looked like kind of a fun deck with the carousel, etc... I can kick my kids out to that area when I'm trying to get ready. Thanks again for all your help. I think your casino comment might have saved me a week of little sleep. It was onl $160 in the end to upgrade. Debbie

dacsmom Posted December 5, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 5, 2013 It looks like you got a good deal on deck 6. Even after months of planning you may have chosen the same stateroom. Maybe there is something to be said for deciding in one night. Have a great cruise.
Ashland Posted December 5, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 5, 2013 We were just on deck #6 exactly midship (balcony 6662) and it was a great location..consider yourself lucky to have this option..enjoy !!

debbs0723 Posted December 5, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted December 5, 2013 Thank you all for the encouraging words. We picked deck 6 so that my parents could have a room two doors down. We found it very convenient with the kids and everybody to be able to run into each other in the hall. It is also very easy when reading this boards to convince yourself you need a balcony room, etc. However, this is going to be my 5th cruise and we have found that we would rather have that money to play with. To each his own and I have to remember that. Thanks again, Debbie

Thanks, Debbie We enjoy deck 9/10/11. My rule is: Cabins above and below and close to midship regardless of the category. My DH and I brought our grandkids with us and before we left, we purchased good walkie/talkies. The kids, aged 9 and 12 were able to keep in contact with us and enjoy some independence exploring the ship together. We had connecting CPV cabins- they (and we) loved it! In a couple of weeks, my DH and I will be sailing on the Allure alone- an adult vacation this time! Enjoy your cruise. debbs0723 Posted December 5, 2013 Author #17 Share Posted December 5, 2013 You bring up an interesting point about the walkie talkies. We bought really good ones that were recommended by this board for our cruise last year on the Navigator of the seas and found them spotty at best. We gave up on them after about day 3. We were considering renting those ship phones to keep in contact.

I had heard the walkie talkies available on board were not so great. I will ask my DH if he can give me the name/model number of the walkie talkies we purchased. Enjoy!
