Where are my BlackJack players??

I played the video one on the Allure, had the same set up as a real dealer and had one of them Virtual dealers with seats.. I won about 50$.. The Black Jack tables were always busy and I didn't want to wait hours to play.

On majesty they have $1 black jack tables at a certain time and my wife plays the entire time.

Sorry but you are doing what many blackjack players do. They talk about the times a "misplay" loses them a hand and don't talk about the times a "misplay" wins them a hand. Track it some time when you are at a table -- it really does even out over time. The professional books out there agree mostly ( I won't say all, I haven't read them all ) with me -- in the long run it is how you play your own cards that makes the difference for you. I would agree though that it can be highly annoying seeing yourself lose a hand when you could have won. That's when I leave the table:)

 

Actually basic strategy assumes everyone acts according to the rules. If others dont it does impact the house edge, raising it. The edge of paying basic strategy has already been compared to other plays including anything a novice would add by random, conservative or aggressive calls.

I actually like Blackjack in more than cruises. The issue I have is at the $5 or $6 table, Blackjack is only paid 6 to 5 instead of 3 to 2. I am most certainly not a "high roller", but have been up as high as $200 from my starting $60, and also have lost money quite quickly. I look at it as entertainment.

 

The funniest thing is that I was on one ship which had a blackjack tournament. You start with 1000, and have a max 100 bet per hand, so normally the maximum you could make if you won every hand would be 2000. I entered, and after splitting and doubling everything which went against my normal advice I ended up with 2200. I felt I was in line to move to the next round, but did not even make it. Wow!

 

I've spoken to dealers & pit bosses in various parts of the country (U.S. & Canada). Everyone is saying that this is where the industry is headed, for lower and upper limit tables. I guess the casinos aren't making enough money, they need more of an edge.

I start small then IF I get up a few hundred go to $20, then move up from there. Sometimes I end up with $200 per hand on two spots, all with the ships money.

 

Sorry, but I am one of those who does not go with the book all the time. I sometimes go with my "GUT" and the gut has been "berry good to me".:D

I am a very experienced blackjack player. I play basic strategy. Don't care for single deck. The key is to play consistent. NO HUNCHES!!! It used to drive me nuts when other players "played stupid". Then it hit me, it is their money they are wagering!

 

My preferred spot to play is 3rd base. I (in my mind) can control the table by hitting or staying at the right time!

 

Every cruise I've been on you can use a basic strategy card. Just place it on the table. I've done over 40 cruises too.

 

My biggest tip to novice players is not to mix alcohol with gambling! Listen to the dealer they want you to be happy and win! TIP THE DEALER AS WELL!!!!!

There was a group of us. We had all been drinking most of the day. We all started off small, then grew our stacks as the dealer continued to give us good hands. Table limit was $200 and most of us were playing at that level at about midnight, with the ships money. We had a run of about 10 plus hands where the dealer busted and most of us were pulling down good amounts. The guy next to me hit 3 bJ's with $200 on each hand so was up $900 in less than 5 minutes.

 

They shut us down, at about 2am. I sure wish we had been in VEgas, had such a roll going.

 

Same thing happened once in Tahoe, CA. Wife got made I came back to the room about 1am. I started with $200 to gamble with and when she started yelling at me I started throwing $100 bills at her. Amazing how $6,000 in hundreds makes the wife love you even more!!! :D:D

Joekatie- Your logic is completely wrong. How the player before you plays his hands has absolutely NO affect on the odds of what the next card coming out of the shoe is. Just because they take "your" 10 one time doesn't mean the next time they get their 6 and then you get your 10.

 

This is especially true on the continuous shuffle machines... The card mix is constant, so your odds of getting a card never change enough to be statistically significant.

But the odds are the odds for a reason and if you (and your table) play them things will work out much better for everyone. Game is me vs the dealer and one hand at a time. So yes if any player hits something stupid and takes the dealers bust card it affects me. Also, I usually stick to single deck. I know how to play the game.

Player can just as easily hit something stupid and cause the dealer to bust. Do you thank said player when that happens?

that could happen yes, but if people played the game correctly it takes the luck out of it and allows the odds to take over. I've seen it happen before and I have thanked them, and then told them they were lucky.

It absolutely matters what the player does and the outcome of the hand. Counting cards is not as good as it used to be with 6 or 8 decks, but if a deck is heavy in ten pointers, then the odds of a ten coming out are greater. Now if the pleyer before me takes a card and it is a ten in a ten heavy deck then the odds of me getting a ten on the next card are lowered. Some may be saying the percentage is very small and they are correct, but any advantage a player can get against the house is big. Now I am not going to put out big bets unless the deck is in my favor. This is when playing the correct way is the only way you will consistently make money. That being said, I only play at $50-$200 tables anymore to avoid much of the bad play by others. If I am with a bunch of friends and we are having a good time and drinking, I will play at a $5-15 table and who cares how people play. I will still play right and coach whoever wants it, but I am not there to make money like I do at the higher tables

things that make my blood boil

1. player refuses to hit his 15 or 16 against a dealer face card

2. Not hitting a soft 17

and the top

3. A player splitting face cards.

 

I have done all the above, but only when playing heads up. Play by the book or go to a slot machine.

 

In October, I paid a guy to leave the table and not to sit at a table with me the rest of the cruise. He took me up on the green chip.

In all my cruises i have seen no more than half a dozen other players who knew how to play blackjack correctly. I play basic strategy and never deviate except for eyeballing 16 versus a dealer 10. A bit of progressive betting keeps the interest level up and i leave the table when i am no longer enjoying playing. No card counting either because on a ship there is no other casino to go to!.

 

Other players bad plays don't bother me apart from shaking my head and weeping at the stupidity of it.

Just came off the Breakaway and saw several good blackjack players. Fun to play with. The one problem that happened was I was watching a table of 4 players, none of whom was any good. The 3rd player, playing $25, had two 3's. He took a hit and got a 2. Took another one and got a 3. Took another hit and got a jack. SO what happened? The dealer took his cards and $25. No one said a word. I couldn't stop myself and mentioned that he had a 21. Got straightened out. I gotta open a casino.

That happens all the time. I always stop them before picking up the cards to confirm I busted. I've saved myself from losing money.
