swom Posted December 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2013 Will I be charged if I'm using my phone on my balcony or in cabin before we sailaway? I know there's a charge to use it while sailing, but what about while on the ship before you depart?

catl331 Posted December 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Any time you are in port the ship's cell phone tower should be shut off, and you will be connected to a land tower. Check you phone display to be certain. Edited December 10, 2013 by catl331

Cindy Posted December 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2013 . How do you do that? On a smart phone, you should see the name of the carrier next to the bars that indicate the signal strength. If it says "Cellular at Sea" you probably don't want to use your phone!:)

If it says "Cellular at Sea" you probably don't want to use your phone!:) And or once it says "Roaming" then turn it off. Mine has never said Cellular at Sea. But it has flipped over to Roaming. It is usually about 15 minutes once the ship has left the dock when it flips over.

bjkrlk Posted December 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Doesn't even have to be in port. On the trip we are on now we've often had our Att signal.
sail7seas Posted December 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 12, 2013 We are assuming you are referring to being in a U.S. port...... ;)
