S.S.Oceanlover Posted December 11, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Not much of a surprise in that list IMHO. No surprises but it shows Carnival has their work cut out for them. If as many post that they want new cruisers, new cruisers are made up of quite a few families i would venture to guess. Disney has that wrapped up but how many families can afford Disney? My kids are all grown and I can't afford Disney for just my wife and I. I would think that Carnival should be putting more family activities or as some on here call them, gimmicks. While Carnival is cheaper they aren't perceived as the best value, at least not in this poll. I hope Carnival get get their game turned around as i used to love to cruise with them. BubMunkeyBles Posted December 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2013 We can afford it, I just can't talk myself into paying that much more for a Disney cruise... at least yet. Waiting for my kids to be a few years older when I think they'll get the moneys worth of paying twice as much.
nitro2448 Posted December 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2013 I personally couldn't care less where they are ranked, I like them so I cruise with them. If someone else doesn't like them, don't cruise with them. GO MIZZOU!!!!!!!

Bill I used to consider Disney a Carnival cruise with that layer of Dinsey in top. Then Carnival retreated from being something special, to a bargain basement line. even NCL took advantage of that, and now outshines Carnival. You're right. Carnival has their work cut out for them, and removing tablecloths is not one of them.

If someone else doesn't like them, don't cruise with them. I cruise Carnival because I can board ship 10 mins. from my house! I don't have to deal with horrible airports or flying in a cramped aeroplane cabin. In my books that's a big deal. .

TwinPrincessMermaids Posted December 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Booked a 4 Night 'new' DCL Magic for May in July, (since then its gone up) at 522 pp including 10% off incentive. Since then, I've gotten $521 in kick backs from my disney visa accounts (and I still have until May to get more rewards)...so I'd say I'll be cruising DCL at CCL prices... Cuz that's already taken off half the fare... I know it must irritate people to see DCL at the top each time along with RCI, but these are based on customers, plain and simple. Every time, these two still typically win across the board. CCL really needs to give their servers a quality life/job so that they can give us the friendly spoiling service that we enjoyed in 2007 & 2011. That would help. For our family (which is a couple, no kids presently) we were seriously spoiled by DCL this year and its going to be hard to go back to another line. Maybe RCI in 2015...if I don't somehow get my butt on the Fantasy first... *sigh*... Yay for Disney! Clearly I'm not the only cheerleader... (Its pretty obvious that DCL would win families, but a double win for Caribbean when that is a VERY competitive cruise market, that is a big one for me. I think a lot of is has to do with Castaway Cay...) Ok, ok, I'm done gloating...just couldn't help myself....shame shame! Here, someone smack me. :D

TwinPrincessMermaids Posted December 11, 2013 #18 Share Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) I used to consider Disney a Carnival cruise with that layer of Dinsey in top. Without a cruise history, I was just wondering which ship for Disney you cruised? I find them to be worlds apart, even when I enjoyed CCL a few years ago. The obvious Vegas casino style cruising vs Disney resort style, and upgraded technology too. Had great service on both lines. But I wouldn't say that DCL used to be a Carnival with DCL icing... at least, that wasn't my experience... HappyAboard Posted December 11, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Disney sometimes has offers where kids sail free. During those times we sail Disney for the same price we sail Carnival, and there is no question that Disney is a cut above in service. I actually find more deck chairs and less kids on Disney then when we sail Carnival during our kids school break every year in Feb., and I have come to realize that the age of the kids on Disney (a lot more babies and kids 3 and under) are younger the the age of the kids on Carnival. I find that the parents of kids this age have them in daycare or have them in there rooms every afternoon for naps, and spaces really clear out. A lot of them have kids to young to make it through a dining room seating, so it lowers the crowds there too. On Disney after midnight the ships are very quiet. Comparing all of these cruise lines is like comparing apples to oranges. Different cruise lines suit different lifestyles. All the complaining comes in when someone is try to cruise on a line that doesn't suit their lifestyle. Carnival is a no table cloth, no need to dress-up, low cost cruise line which is how most of us live. For the cost for our whole family, I'm good with that right now. I hate the constant blaring music on the Lido, but for the price I will put up with it for now. When I am eventually able to cruise without kids, I will choose another line where I can be treated like royalty, dress up fancy, and dine all day with table cloths, and no characters, and lay on the lido without my head thumping from all the music. Pick the cruise line that suits your habits best, and if it is twice the price then save up twice as long and go less often, at least when you go you will have a vacation that you can enjoy to the fullest without complaint. I life you generally get what you pay for.

Warm Breezes Posted December 11, 2013 #22 Share Posted December 11, 2013 We can afford it, I just can't talk myself into paying that much more for a Disney cruise... at least yet. Waiting for my kids to be a few years older when I think they'll get the moneys worth of paying twice as much. Our first 2 cruises were Disney when our kids where 4 and 7 and then 7 and 10. I won't pay those prices again until I have grandkids young enough to enjoy the Disney experience. IMHO Disney has the better entertainment, food, and private island, but it is not worth the higher prices they charge unless you have a child to experience it with.
