Kroozen Posted December 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2013 I'm sailing on the Explorer in February, and I was wondering if there are any "must do's or "must see's" on the ship. I was on the Mariner of the seas a few years ago, and I understand they are similar, but I was wondering if Explorer has anything different than the Mariner that I should check out. One thing that I really liked on the Mariner was the bridge observation area. Does Explorer have this? Thanks!

Explorer also has the sports bar (instead of Vintages) on the Promenade, and a kiddie play area on deck 12 aft.
LA_CA_GAL Posted December 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Late at night while cruising at sea, go to the heliport, front railing, stand on the first rung, and yell "QUEEN OF THE SEA!". Then turn around and wave to the officers on the bridge.
Clarea Posted December 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Forgot to mention to try Portofino before it's gone. It's being replaced by Giovanni's Table throughout the fleet.
dagama10 Posted December 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2013 That's too bad about Portofino's, as my family really enjoyed it. Do the rock climbing wall and attend the ice show. Also, assuming you're sailing from Port Liberty, take a good look at the Teardrop Memorial next to the dock in New Jersey.

Bob, do you know if the sports bar is going to be replaced by Vintages when the ship goes to dry dock?
Clarea Posted December 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Bob, do you know if the sports bar is going to be replaced by Vintages when the ship goes to dry dock? I don't know for sure. Royal's list of enhancements to Explorer still says "Details coming soon". However, I do think that replacing the Sports Bar with Vintages is a likely change. rncruiser Posted December 20, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2013 Explorer has one thing that no other Royal Caribbean ship has, the Aquarium Lounge. Not only is the music wonderful, but you can watch the fish in the huge tanks.

Good point, I forget about that.:) Voyager and Adventure used to have the aquariums too, but they have since been removed.

It's one of our favorite places to just relax and people watch. It's next to the casino.
rutgersgirl27 Posted December 21, 2013 #16 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Sounds silly, but if they have the paper airplane making contest, I would check it out. It was a lot of fun, plus you get to stand on that bridge that goes across the promenade to throw them. It was one of those super silly "we are on vacation" moments.
