supervised kids not allowed in any jacuzzis?

I have been on 25+ cruises on many different cruise lines, including 4 previousl Celebrity cruises. On every cruise, there are some jacuzzis that are "adults only" and others where children are allowed if they are with their parents.

 

I am on the Reflection right now with my 10 and 12 year olds, and they say their "corporate policy" is no kids allowed in any jacuzzi. I have never heard of such a policy before, and I don't understand it. With the wind we have right now, some activities are canceled and one of the few activities remaining is to go in the pool, but with the water cool some people need the hot water in the jacuzzi to warm up. I totally understand you don't allow kids to jump in or fool around in or even go in unsupervised...but if a child needs to go in with their parents for a few minutes to warm up, you kick them out? I don't get it.

Body temps is important. that is a start. I guess if it is not stated at the door, I go for it and challenge the situation at hand.

its always been posted 16 and up for all hot tubs on board any ship I have seen. weather conditions have nothing to do with it. I never use the hot tub to warm up. that's what indoors and a glass of hot chocolate or tea is for.

I must admit I always thought it had something to do with children not being able to regulate their body temperature as adults do, and can get over-heated really easily and become ill. I'm sure I read it somewhere a few years ago.

 

Might be an idea to google it and see what info you can get. I'm sure there must be some reason for the rule.

According to the policy posted by rwr235, the kids 10 and 12 SHOULD be allowed in the jacuzzi as long as they are accompanied by an adult. It sounds like staff on the ship is misinformed? My kids are 10 and 13 and we let them in the hot tubs with us when available (although we've never been on a Celebrity cruise before). It's nice to warm up occasionally when swimming in the pool. Having never been on a cruise before, I'm not sure who you would direct your issue to though to have them check their own policy.

Can't say for sure, but OP may be wanting to use the Solarium Jacuzzis. Those are only for adults. Never heard of adults only in the main jacuzzis.

I see; and, the 'capt'n is supposed to avoid steering the ship and attend to this problem? By the way, for those of you who might wish to comment on my observations, I am well aware that the "capt'n" does not allways steer the ship.

It is very unlikely that the "staff" would try to enforce any policy on their own. Most likely is that they are following instructions. I have also heard that jacuzzis are not good for children. Behaviour of children is also not always adequate despite being "supervised" by their parents. Children not always are just sitting around talking softly and relaxing despite the company of their parents. This could be disturbing for other guests who wish also to enjoy their cruise and their jacuzzi time.

there are two main entrances one on each side. from the Forward, and Mid.

 

Adult Pool, only, why do kids parants and strollers, walk through, when it says adults only?

I am so happy...this is wonderful news...NO kids in hot tubs..maybe the pool is next...oh wow.......and maybe the main dining room will follow..hooray for celebrity....

maybe the day will come when the celebrity ships will be adult only, especially when off holidays...oh why not make that rule right now, kids are allowed only on government sanctioned school holidays, that missing school to be on a cruise is a a big no no..and home schooled are just out of luck....

Why would one not use the hot tub because kids are in it? Potty issues? I am sure plenty of grown folks use the hot tubs who later shower and put a Depends on under their formal wear. Just sayin'.....one would never know who is incontinent.

When I use a hot tub, I am there to relax. Never have I ever seen a child of any age "relax" in a hot tub. No matter how "well behaved" they are considered by their parents, the fact is that they will squirm and figgit and stay pretty active in any pool, especially hot tubs due to their uniqueness. Kids can't sit still when they are trying to have fun, and if they are in a hot tub, they are trying to have fun. It's no fault of theirs - it's just the way kids are.

 

Sorry, but for this old gal, a hot tub is for relaxing and not having figgity, squirmy fun. I will not share a hot tub with kids.

the hot tub is not 105 degree's, it is at a good 90 degree's a kid has no clue what hot is and and they will continue to over stay the 15 min time limit. Some will feel light headed some will not, and that is at the 105 degree temp.

 

Best time to go to the hot tub and get away with getting in is at 8PM ... while every one is at a show or Dinner.

On a cruise earlier this year on the Noordam, there were two sisters and a third young girl who we saw every sea day in and around the pool and hot tubs. They were all 10, plus or minus a year or so. They frequently joined us in the hot tub to warm up or just have a change in venue from the pool, and DW and I found them to be extremely polite and a pleasure to interact with. Of course, with four grandchildren, three under the age of 5, maybe we're just a bit more accustomed to the fidgety, squirmy young things sharing our pool and hot tub at home! :)

 

But I certainly understand your perspective and hope that you can find your small oasis onboard!

This is a bit off point regarding Celebrity's policy, but we were recently on a Princess cruise where the kids took over all the hot tubs on the entire ship.

OMG -- they were being 'supervised' and screaming and splashing all over the place and even bouncing ping pong balls off the heads of other passengers, who were obviously trying to enjoy some relaxation time. Not to mention, those kids ran around between the pool and the hot tub for hours, never ever did I see them run out to use the restroom. Why would they need to? What a nightmare...it was the least relaxing cruise I've ever been on ...thought I booked a Carnival cruise in the middle of spring break. There were a couple of adults present but they couldn't possibly keep an eye on that entire pack of wild children.

 

With that being said, when we purchased our hot tub, we were warned that children could be subject to harm if the temp was at or less than their body temp. For me, a hot tub that is not at least 100 degrees is just not hot enough. Oftentimes, they are about 101-102 degrees on a cruiseship, which is harmful to children. Maybe they should post this for parents that don't have knowledge of this. Or ....better yet, have a kids only hot tub with a lower temp and don't allow them into any of the other hot tubs.

Glad to see some adults know about this. I sat in what to me was a freezing hot tub (95 degrees) when my niece would come over, as she is so precious to me. Wouldn't want to cook her young little organs....and then send her back home like that. :D

Why would you ever subject a five year old body to the extreme trauma of water over 100 degrees?
