CruiserJul Posted December 26, 2013 Author #26 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Did you request a Table for 2 prior to be seated? No, we didn't request a table for 2. We never did with Carnival either. I didn't see any tables for 2 on this ship really. We don't mind being seated with others...the only problem was the 2nd night we were in MTD we had to wait a long time for the table to fill up before we got our orders taken. CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Coco Cay! Happy Birthday to DH! I did bring some decorations to put up in the cabin and I put a big card on our door that people could sign. It was a good souvenir :D. Anyway, we got up at 6:45 and headed to the WJ which was not crowded at that time. I had hash browns, fruit, a vanilla pastry and a grilled tomato. There were to be 2 ships that day at CC so we were advised to be on a tender before 10 which is when most people would come over. We were on the 1st at 8:30 and really not much of a crowd to be on that tender. What a beautiful island. As you can see at that time it was deserted. We put our stuff under a palapa and walked the nature trail. It is rocky but pretty with little outlets where you can see the ships and the water. A couple of the outlets had a couple of chairs set out and one had a white table and chairs...very peaceful
dacsmom Posted December 28, 2013 #28 Share Posted December 28, 2013 I am enjoying your review. CoCo Cay is one of my favorite stops. I am a Carnival to RCI convert and each company has its good and bad points. Glad you gave RCI a try, some people prefer one line to the other. CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #29 Share Posted December 28, 2013 We saw some hermit crabs and geckos... oh and roosters...lol! Here are some hermit crabs: The total walk was about 2 miles. We didn't see another soul the whole time we were out there. After a while we went back to our chairs. DH ventured out into the water for a while...he went pretty far out and the water only went up to his knees! We saw a couple of conch shells with a large crab inside them! We headed over the BBQ lunch before noon. It was supposed to be open at noon, but before that people had their food and were sitting down eating. I knew it got crowded so we headed over early. They had ribs, hot dogs, burgers, veggie burgers, corn, salads and desserts. We found a table without too much of a problem. After lunch we had a couple of drinks and moved our things over to where the snorkeling was. DH brought his snorkeling equipment, but decided he was going to drink a little instead of snorkel (being his birthday and all :p). We stayed until the last possible minute and took the last tender back. DH enjoying the water: The ship

CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #31 Share Posted December 28, 2013 After we got back we cleaned up and headed to dinner. We were seated with one of the couples we were seated with the first night! And they got engaged on Coco Cay! The other 2 couples at our table had been seated together all 3 nights...none of this was planned! Anyway, for dinner I had the caprese salad and chicken marsala Both were very good. DH had scallops au gratin and pork tenderloin wrapped in prosciutto: Dessert was the sampler with strawberry mouse, lemon cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake ( this was the only good thing) They did bring out a tirimisu with a candle for Dh's birthday so we could all sing to him
CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #32 Share Posted December 28, 2013 After dinner we went to the casino and then went up on deck to return our towels. Carnival has beach towels in your cabin that you can use and the room stewards wash them each night. RCI makes you check them out on the pool deck, then you must return them by 10 on the last night. So we headed up to return our towels to find rain and lightning! Wet deck Towel animal
CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #33 Share Posted December 28, 2013 We packed up our things (we elected to carry our own luggage off) and went to bed. Cruise sleeping is always the best....no difference between Carnival and RCI on this. Woke up early and were off the ship by 8. A side note: DH enjoyed the Freestyle Coke machines...he bought the soda package. Carnival lets you bring pop and water on board....but at least this was a decent alternative. I'm glad RCI lets you bring wine onboard now also. Service was very good on this ship and I liked the Solarium a lot. I wish we would have had a day at sea so we could enjoy more amenities...it just went by so fast! But the trip served its purpose...to give us a break from the cold and celebrate DH's birthday in a tropical place! Let me know if you have any questions...and Happy New Year! Yorkvillain Posted December 28, 2013 #34 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Nice review. Do you think you will check out one of Royal's bigger ships one day?
CruiserJul Posted December 28, 2013 Author #35 Share Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) Nice review. Do you think you will check out one of Royal's bigger ships one day? Sure, if the price is right...:). Just noticed your "location"....nice! The Solarium was the best part about this ship....the pool water was warm, 2 hot tubs, no kids, an uncrowded café and a bar! And it was very pretty! Edited December 28, 2013 by CruiserJul

readytolose Posted December 28, 2013 #37 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Great review! Just for future reference, if you decide to try Royal again, most people have luck bringing on both water and soda. Most just stick a luggage tag on them and they are delivered to their room along with their luggage. I've never tried it because alcohol is my poison of choice while on vacation, but I've read many people post that it isn't a problem at all! proudpatriot07 Posted December 28, 2013 #38 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Thanks for the review. We have done Carnival and Royal and we definitely prefer Royal... especially lately bc Carnival had tons of cutbacks. On all of our cruises, we have been seated with the same people each night and never had any issues... always the same people the whole cruise, unless some of them went to a specialty restaurant or something. Glad you had a good time!

I had heard this....but really I was happy to have an excuse to not lug all those drinks with us when we boarded . It was only 3 days and no kiddos with us.
