John Reid Posted December 24, 2013 #26 Share Posted December 24, 2013 No, it's hard to find a desert that tastes as good as it looks on a cruise ship. You would think something like Mango Moose Cake will burst with flavor, but it's a bland as it can be. Jello No-Bake Cheesecake is better than what passes for cheesecake on a cruise ship. You've captured it! I've been trying to pin down how to describe the cheesecake on all ships we've sailed. Jello-No-Bake exactly!
meatball_nyc Posted December 24, 2013 #27 Share Posted December 24, 2013 p.s. GRANNYOFSIX Posted December 24, 2013 #28 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Not sure what is going on with the WCMC but on our last cruise in October my absolute favorite dessert was a disappointment. Our waiter was great though - he said he shook the WCMC until he found one that wasn't dry..........so at least I had ONE yummy WCMC during the cruise!! Until our October cruise I never had one single chocolate chip cookie on any of Carnival's ships (been cruising since 1993) - didn't know anything about them until I read on CC that those cookies are to die for...........hoooooooly...........they were soooooo delicious - In a way I wish I didn't know about them - I might have been able to lose weight instead of gain:D
Florissouri Posted December 24, 2013 #29 Share Posted December 24, 2013 You've captured it! I've been trying to pin down how to describe the cheesecake on all ships we've sailed. Jello-No-Bake exactly! A better description of cheesecake on cruise ships would be "No Cheese Cheesecake" because Jello No-Bake Cheesecake actually has texture to it. sanmarcosman Posted December 24, 2013 #30 Share Posted December 24, 2013 People here often shoot me down for saying I like the "napoleons" served on the buffet. They are better than the Bitter and Blanc and Warm Chocolate Melting cake! :p

packedandready Posted December 24, 2013 #32 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Agree 100%! I have no idea how they can make something look so good and be so tasteless! It baffles the mind! Totally agree and it DOES baffle the mind. You're expecting one thing and get nothing close.
cruises42 Posted December 24, 2013 #33 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I asked John Heald for the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies. He said they are not made on the ship.
maxwell'sparents Posted December 24, 2013 #34 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Agreed. Loved the MDR desserts and the ice cream but have given up on the Lido desserts.
mintsugarcube Posted December 24, 2013 #35 Share Posted December 24, 2013 SO glad to hear I am not the only one who feels this way. The desserts look absolutely delectable, but yes, a lot of them aren't very good at all. They say you eat with your eyes first, and maybe Carnival is focusing on that. However, after the eyes come the taste buds!
UpstateCruizer Posted December 24, 2013 #36 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Has anybody else noticed this? They look great, but, are tasteless. Am I grabbing the wrong desserts from the buffet? Is this just a European (or somewhere else) thing? Maybe I eat way too many Milky Ways...lol. No they are all pretty much tasteless but shhhhh because it saves me unnecessary calories lol I'm not a fan of the dining room desserts either but that may change with the new menus.
Lerin Posted December 24, 2013 #37 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We've never been fans of Carnival desserts, probably why we don't gain any weight on cruises! The soft serve is great. Big Thank You to the person here who suggested we bring our own candy toppings. Also we like the cakes from Bon Voyage so usually order one. If it comes on day 2 and we keep it covered, it'll last until about day 6.
Florissouri Posted December 24, 2013 #38 Share Posted December 24, 2013 What "you people" should experience is the crepe station on NCL ships. They will make you a crepe with your choice of fillings and toppings. They make making a fresh crepe look easy while you watch.
meatball77 Posted December 24, 2013 #39 Share Posted December 24, 2013 stick to the chocolate chip cookies. I'll turn down desert in the main dining room because I'd rather have cookies
golfadj Posted December 24, 2013 #40 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I asked John Heald for the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies. He said they are not made on the ship. That is very surprising.
Keith Esposito Posted December 24, 2013 #41 Share Posted December 24, 2013 You've captured it! I've been trying to pin down how to describe the cheesecake on all ships we've sailed. Jello-No-Bake exactly! I describe it like the desserts at a Chinese buffet. Look different. Taste the same. Save for the tiramisu.
irishnyc Posted December 24, 2013 #42 Share Posted December 24, 2013 There wasn't one dessert on board that I truly liked. Not even WCMC, and definitely not that abomination they call cheesecake in the steakhouse. I love sweets but I'll take the cheese plate any day over Carnival desserts. Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted December 24, 2013 #43 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Most not as good as they look. One exception is the key lime pie they have for lunch. Best dessert they make. The key limy pie was great and the chocolate mouse and cream thing. Sent from my wonderful iPhone 5 using the fabulous Cruise Critic app.

sanmarcosman Posted December 24, 2013 #45 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I asked John Heald for the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies. He said they are not made on the ship. heatherbelle Posted December 24, 2013 #49 Share Posted December 24, 2013 I agree with OP the desserts are tasteless. It's the dream/frosting that they smother them in. The chefs need to visit Italy for some inspiration.
Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted December 24, 2013 #50 Share Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) I have often thought to grab a whole key lime pie and leave it in our cabin fridge to enjoy all week. Hmm, good idea. What could they do but just put another one out. Lol. Or just take a piece at a time until you have a whole one on your plate. Lol. "Look, he just took a whole pie" Sent from my wonderful iPhone 5 using the fabulous Cruise Critic app. Edited December 24, 2013 by MamallamaAndDaddy
