midwestchick Posted January 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Just curious. How many of you Azamara cruisers have had to miss this port due to rough seas? If my memory serves me right, I believe our itinerary was changed in Sept. of '12 for that same reason. I wondering because I have a private excursion booked for Cinque Terre that day and my tour guide asked me for a phone number (which we won't have) in case of bad weather. I'm thinking maybe I should just plan on doing something with the ship,(subject to change) rather than trying to do a private excursion. Just wondering is this is a common occurrence with the port. And yes, I do know weather is something that cannot be predicted.
dln929 Posted January 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2014 I can't answer your question exactly but we're planning on a day in Cinqueterre after we debark from the Journey in May. I found this fantastic article about it that you might enjoy looking at. It will definitely whet your appetite to see it. http://french-riviera-blog.com/tag/portovenere/
tango9 Posted January 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Hello , I was on Azamara this past June and we stopped at Portvenere. No problems with tendering in. We had planned on taking the ferry service to the Cinque Terre towns and , although we did so, the ferry said that the seas were too rough to go to two of the towns, so we missed them. This turned out ok, as we enjoyed the stop which we did make. I don't know how often Azamara misses this port due to weather/ rough seas. I may have been there in better weather than say, in the fall.
SkystheLimit Posted January 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We had no problems the first week in September. Took the ferry own our own for the Cinqueterre villages. Our friends did the Azamara tour and they were on the same boat with us.
Spursgirl Posted January 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We were on Quest's first ever call into Portovenere and it was delightful. Last October when the weather was bad we were scheduled to call at Portofino and the Captain had the option of substituting this port for either Genoa or Portovenere. In the end we called in to Genoa but the weather would not have prevented us tendering in to Portovenere.
