First timer here on NCL. Tell me why you like Norwegian.

Just got off Breakaway in October and then on Liberty of the Seas in November. I just love cruising period and this was my first year. I got the cruises cheap thru my play at land casinos so I decided for the first time. The best experience ever. Love NCL and RCCL. Both the same yet many different venues. It's how (U) make a cruise. Since breakaway was brand new it did put a edge but it was more crowed somehow.

@ Chris

My most attractive points: being able to afford a balcony, and not having to even think about dressy (formal) clothes, just "resort casual".

It will be hard to go back to anything else on another line -- if we did it would be by eating in upcharge restaurants or the buffet on formal nights. We have enough opportunities to dress up in the course of a year; nothing against those that look forward to the chance and I don't want to spoil their evening by being in the same room wearing culottes!

Don't worry too much about asking common questions -- newbies get blasted for asking new questions on old threads when they read too many pages deep! OTOH, you will learn a lot if you find time to read, say, two pages of (1) the forum for the line(s) you're considering, (2) Ask A Cruise Question, and (3) First Time Cruisers (even if you are not one). I know because I came back to CC after only being on one River Trip Roll Call a few years back, before a Panama Canal Cruise last month, and *I* learned plenty!

Thank you everyone for the responses so far. Sounds like I will enjoy finally getting a chance to experience NCL :)

As they say on Family Feud . . . "Good answer!! Good answer!!" :D

I hope you can have even half the positive experience I did when I branched out to give NCL a first look-see. Enjoy!!

Also, as an aside, sincere applause to you for your upbeat reaction to an earlier post [now removed] that wasn't at all initially helpful to your introductory inquiry. That one does have a lot to offer, but has for a while now been 'unique' with posts on this board.

Again, Bon Voyage!! :)

Hello from Ottawa, Canada, Chris!:D I'm just off my second NCL cruise on Pearl and agree with a lot of the other posters. I can't comment on smoke in the casino since I never stopped once to play, just passed through. Generally enjoyed the food in both specialty and MDR. Service in the MDR was slow some evenings and better others, but we always made the 9:30 shows, so it was all good.:) Before I would have said I prefer set dining times, now I've completely changed my mind and really appreciate the opportunity to eat where and when I like. I found the entertainment far better than Carnival's, although there is also no house band for the main shows. If you are lucky to be on a ship with the "Oh What a Night" tribute, run, don't walk to see it. It was amazing!

Hope you have fun on your cruise.

Heather

Thanks Don. I think your review of the Epic was fantastic. Sadly I think I miss out on trying her before they switch her homeport from Miami to Barcelona
