matt4cruise4 Posted January 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2014 To clarify: -Is this paid live music replacing a night of free/inclusive entertainment for this night of the cruise? -There was already a house band, so what additions of live music are we getting besides a male/female singer? Are we getting back the reggae pool band or another Philipino party band? Thanks for the info/opinions.

Sounds like yes, the only addition is a "slightly better" house band, including both (!) a male and female singer.
Rare Tapi Posted January 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2014 Keep in mind that before these concerts , there were nights when there were no shows scheduled at the main theater, so you will not be missing out on much, unless you consider silly passenger participation games as quality evening entertainment., Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Replacing a Playlist show would have been a better idea :-P
golfadj Posted January 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2014 If the concert replaces a flyon or production show (not playlist) they have managed to put in a cutback for passengers not going to the concert. Would hope it would replace love and marriage show.
Carnival_Brides Posted January 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2014 On our five day Fantasy cruise in November there were two nights with no entertainment since they showed all of the MoTown show the first night instead of a preview like on the Glory. This is a welcomed addition/option.

soccersharon Posted January 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Many folks here complained about the production shows. How could adding proffessional musicians be seen as a cutback? There is usually more than 1 activity going on at a time on any given night. Last month on the Dream they had a cover group made up of both male and female vocalists. This will continue presumably so not an addition to entertainment just hte same. Than they add a concert and eliminate say a flyon. For those who would not go to a paid concert didnt they lose something here? Personally if it was a group we liked we would probably go. If it was a group we dont care for we do not go and our choices have gone downhill. That I call a cutback. What else would you call it?

I understand what you're saying, Stu :) I'm thinking that the cover band at the casino (for example) won't be eliminated in favour of the "big band" in the theatre. Perhaps the comedy show would run at the same time as well, since the theatre is capacity controlled and not everyone on the ship will / can attend. Webb of Joy Posted January 24, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2014 Love and marriage is that the same and newlywed game? If so that's the best show of the week Reality television is a big catch and every cruise I have been on there have been hundreds of passengers attending because this is a reality show of sorts. That's why they are continuing to be so popular. Just sayin

Not arguing with your premise of an overall cutback, but the implication of the announcement was that these enhanced groups were already on some ships pre-announcement as part of the new roll-out; perhaps as a trial to see whether they were perceived as an improvement. Rather than their presence on the Dream representing the status quo, they were an early enhancement which, depending on how much you valued them, mitigates part of the cutback you are seeing. squakittymaus Posted January 25, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 25, 2014 If you've seen it once, you've seen it a million times. Same questions, same "jokes", same answers. I have to disagree. I've been to every love and marriage show on every carnival cruise I've been on, and my last cruise, my husband and I were the newlyweds for the show, and it never gets old. It's my favorite show of the week. The answers can vary and do, it's not like it's scripted. And the last couple cruises I had been on, they switched up some of the questions. Lace Posted January 25, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Sad how far the entertainment has declined. :( Bill I seem to remember going to the show lounge EVERY night. Two production shows, and other assorted entertainment during the week, like the passenger talent show and other stuff. Did someone say the show lounge is now dark on some nights? And this concert takes away a playlist or production show?

Depends on the CD, but we've never missed one, although it was always in the afternoon. Having it offered in the evening as entertainment is insulting. If there is one or two real shows, why is the pot being stirred here about a night being taken away? We don't know how they will handle it yet. And when the concert happens, it's not on every ship on every sailing. It's a one night thing one time on a ship. People here are talking like they are being totally deprived. As for filler shows like love and marriage, it may not be popular because it's popular, maybe it's a time killer for many.

We have done about 20 something cruises on Carnival and until recently they had real entertainment every night. Going on the Glory shortly and if we have nights of just hasbro and love and marriage (and playlist is as bad as most say it is) will be done with Carnival until they make real improvements. I agree Stu. Remember the days where we had 2 shows, 1 for each dinner seating, magicians, jugglers, musical acts, etc. If you have seen 1 Legends show, you have seen them all. If showing Legends, at least change up the artists. Hasbro should be an afternoon show, not the main evening show. I probably will not book a cruise to see a concert, and this has no interest for DW and me. But I do credit CCL with making an attempt to change. Just waiting patiently to see what improvements are made to live music, bands, etc, as CCL stated they are making changes.
