Something not right

I am booked on the BA for March 23. I am booked through CAS from a land casino we upgraded to a balcony and the total for two of us was $1620. I did a mock booking to see what the normal price would be and it was $2808. Today I looked and the mini suite (family) is 2708 so I asked how much it would be to upgrade. He told me $370 per person. Does this make sense to anyone? Doesn't to me.

You paid $1620 for balcony. The mini suite is $2708. It would cost you $740 to upgrade which means you'd be paying a total of $2360 which is $348 cheaper than the listed price of the mini suite. Why doesn't that make sense to you?

Still would love to know how cas figures out your cabin

It is mind boggling that you call twice about the same cabin and get a different price

I really think there are many behind the scenes situations that we will never know. First off, CAS "buys" the rooms from NCL (yes, they are also NCL). Anyways, they buy the rooms and hope they get their money back via gambling.

Rooms come available based on current sales and forecasted sales. From time to time they will have better rooms and prices available. I know sometimes I call and sailing A will get be an OV. Sailing B will be a balcony. Sailing C is a suite. Lots of variables that move around often.

I can also imagine there is a manager involved in the decision process that is looking at your play.

I can tell ya right now that to upgrade from an interior to a balcony through CAS is $500 per person so that sound about right for upgrades~ Im pretty sure they have a standard price for upgrades that have nothing to do with the regular prices you see on NCL~

Our upgrade from an interior to a balcony for a "free" cruise given to us by various Caesar's casinos was in the $350 range for the Jewel out of NOLA.

It does seem to be a fixed price.

I was told by a few different CAS reps that yes it is a standard upgrade fee. I was inquiring about an aft balcony and asked if that price would change closer to sailing if there were still a lot available and was told no. Like the others have stated upgrading through CAS is different than a booking directly through NCL.

And, this is my guess, and guess only... they are probably not thrilled with taking lots of calls for upgrades, price changes, etc. Their department seems to be very busy with calls/questions/bookings.

Leaving aside issues of how CAS prices their cabins, why would getting a different price on different calls not make any sense? Cruise cabins are sold like airline seats. Ever checked the price of an airline seat over a couple of days? Computer modelling, supply & demand, changes in the price of fuel, changes in what competitors are charging, etc, etc...

Now add CAS pricing rules on top of that, as others have explained.

It's weird...

I went from an Ocean view O1 to a balcony BA (free upgrade on booking). Then when I called to asked for a family balcony they said it would be a $60 upgrade but for $20 I could get a MA minisuite.

Makes not sense because fake booking said minisuite was $300-400 more. So for $20 I jumped on it...but now I find that MA minisuites on the BA are above the waterfront - noisy at night and I have to get out of it because my wife and little kids will kill me....

Should have stayed at my original BA balcony...

Not necessarily true with the airline analogy

IF the cabin is $8198(haven 2 bedroom) no matter how many times i call i should get the same price based on my play

Nope.

CAS and ships booking people have to work together. IF haven cabins are not selling, they might incent the CAS people to book them. If they are selling well, then not so much.

And, I think there may be something closer to airline analogy. Supply and demand along with the fact an empty cabin gets them zero revenue. Actually, it is a bigger deal on a ship than an airline due to the various other sources of revenue - photo - booze - tours, ec
