Crabbyguy Posted January 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We are big repeaters. We were skeptical since there's been a lot of talk on this forum. I am happy to report our sailing was a 10 plus. There's nothing out there like the SeaDream crew. Pierre, Ennis, Eugene, Christian, Doremus, Alberto, Jose, Olivier, Lukas, Brenda, *****'s son, The Director of the Spa, just to name a few. Our fav's Mikee and Brian were on vacation. There are 2 new additions to the crew which were an added bonus, Gareth is the new Club Director. He did not miss a beat. He was seen everywhere mingling with us, throughout the entire sailing. He speaks well, follows through on requests, handled a LOT of on board bookings, escorted many hikes. I'd say he was a 10. Our Captain, Bjourn Smorzkey (I know I just ruined his name) is so kind and funny and he's everywhere. He was seen handing out the towels - he even cleaned our sunglasses - love him! Another positive addition to the crew, a guy named Alex, who runs the zodiacs. He is so great! I hope he stays with SeaDream. There were 70% repeaters on the yacht. As far as I know, our group all signed up for another sailing while on board. The Yacht overall was in great shape. The food fantastic as usual. SeaDream is still the best. One more note, we had rough weather at the Sea Dream splash. Those guys worked SO hard bringing over supplies. One of the beached zodiacs filled with water and slapped down one of the crew. It knocked him out and gave him a concussion. Several of the passengers were doctors and ran over to take care of him. The crew took him back to the doctor and didn't miss a beat waiting on us. Just shows you how hard they work. Bottomline, I miss my SeaDream already and can't wait to get back on board. I hope this review helps anyone who is skeptical. ;)
zqvol Posted January 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Curious how many young people were on board?
Crabbyguy Posted January 26, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 26, 2014 There was a lovely 23 year old on board with her mom. Average age I'd say 50. Lovely people. no kids
lincslady Posted January 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2014 I am now completely confused - this is the same Seadream which has recently had so many problems? Also, on the engine update thread, the drinks policy must have changed recently, as a few years ago and, I gather, quite recently, there really was no choice of wine, and the spirits were very limited - only cognac Martell, only single malt Glenfiddich. Maybe policy changes according to who is the Food and Beverage Manager on board, or for some other reason?
Jim Avery Posted January 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Crabby, glad you had SeaDream as advertised. We love SD when it is providing the SeaDream experience. I truly envy those of you who have never had any but the right kind of SD. It sounds like staff is back up to 95. Is that right? In CR we had 92 and there was a hurried feel. Think about it, only one more server on the Pool Deck or MDR can make a real difference in the perceived level of service. Hope all the rest of the Caribbean season goes as well. Hopefully the engine issue will be resolved in the near future.
Crabbyguy Posted January 26, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted January 26, 2014 It indeed was SD as advertised. We were so pleased. There was no engine issue and we were very concerned about this. The Captain was very transparent with us and now we understand - it's a lot more than just a part, but it's mainly the shaft. All I can say is, we've been on SD over 200 days, and this was one of the best SD's ever. The crew on both SD1 and SD2 are the very best at sea. Hands down. JES4845 Posted January 26, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2014 As one who has been critical of owner and office management recently, I too am glad and not at all surprised to hear the crew is as great as ever, indeed the best! Never was any doubt or complaint there. To the contrary on our nine voyages in five years the crew has been fantastic including on the ill-fated Black Sea voyage with kids and groups problems last August. Christophe went out of his way the entire two weeks, Brian as well among others. Regardless of whether we agree or disagree on other issues, we all to a person salute the crew and the excellent service they provide, often under difficult circumstances! WAO Posted January 27, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2014 We sailed on the January 11-18 voyage and had a great experience. The ship's engine issue had no affect on our itinerary. The crew was fabulous overall, weather was great, and we met a lot of new friends. This was our first sailing on SDI and I remain partial to the crew on SDII but no complaints. Our week was fabulous. Hats off to Garreth, the CD -- he did a wonderful job mingling with guests. Can't wait for our next voyage.
