LittleJeanne Posted January 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I have 18 cruises with Carnival under my belt. I've reminded many people that when they are packing up on the last night they need to be sure to put everything they want to wear aside in a specified spot before they set out their luggage for pick-up On our most recent cruise I grabbed my outfit and set it aside everything from underwear to shoes, or so I thought. We set all our luggage out in the hall and nodded off to sleep. Then woke the next morning and got up washed my face, did my makeup and hair and packed those into our small rolling case. Meanwhile hubby was doing his getting ready thing as well. Finally I got ready to get dressed. I peeled off the white Carnival robe, grabbed my folded stack of clothes and started dressing, only to find that instead of a black tank top to go under my jacket (with no buttons), I had grabbed 2 pair of black panties. I dumped everything back out of the small suitcase that we were walking off with. Then I accused hubby of trying to pull a joke on me. Nope ... I had forgotten to pack a shirt. Now the little tidbit that isn't public knowledge. I had been so hot in our room all week that I had given up on wearing anything to sleep in. My saving grace was that we were traveling with our daughter's family. I grabbed the robe and popped across the hall to see if she had anything to offer. She fortunately had a black tank that she had worn the evening before. So I didn't have to make a walk of shame off the ship that morning. Now when I set out my outfit for the next day I will be sure to completely unfold everything before I zip up that final suitcase to set out in the hall. K&P Luv2Cruise Posted January 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Jeanne, Guess we will have to watch when you disembark from our Hawaii cruise :D Thanks for the reminder...that's one of the reasons why we do self-disembark :) Kathryn
irishnyc Posted January 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Oh no! Every time I've cruised that's been my biggest fear. At least I'm so worried about doing that that I end up checking multiple times that I have correct clothes for the next day.
fuddrules Posted January 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Whoops, glad it worked out. Had a friend send off all her shoes, she walked off the ship shoeless.
Rare CruisinCrow Posted January 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2014 My mom forgot to leave out a change of clothes once and had to get off the ship in her pajamas. Fortunately, they looked sort of like a shorts set so probably no one could tell except for us. :)
Mxlady Posted January 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I have never done this but have the fear. This is one of the reasons we self debark. Funny now but I imagine how terrifying it was then.
Shaded Lady Posted January 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I heard on these forums of a guy who argued with his wife that he'd pack his own suitcase and leave it in the hall. She reminded him to set out all the clothes he was wearing home. Sure enough, in the morning, he was offering men in the hall money for a pair of shorts, pants, sweatpants- anything so he didn't need to leave his cabin in a polo, blazer and tighty whities! I giggled about that one... my DH has NEVER left packing to his own devices after that story!
WetToes Posted January 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Shaded Lady - That's funny. Those are the type of things that make great memories, ... and good chuckles. I swear I can see this guy. :)
cruisegirl29 Posted January 28, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2014 That's why I always self-disembark with my luggage!!! The fear of packing everything the night before isn't worth it lol!!!
LittleJeanne Posted January 28, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted January 28, 2014 We have never done the self debark. My dear hubby NOT a morning person. I've seen his attitude as he pulls just the little carry-on down the hall dodging all the room stewards carts and the beginnings of their piles of laundry and the other guests. I can only imagine what our day would start off like if I suggested that we drag everything off on our own. Plus the self debark for platinum starts even earlier. He'd be one bug grouchy bear to ride with for several hours. I'll just deal with double checking my outfit for debark as I set my stuff out the night before. After all it took me 18 cruises to make this mistake. But you can be sure I won't let it happen again!
Rare CruisinCrow Posted January 28, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Plus the self debark for platinum starts even earlier. On Victory and Paradise, they called self-debark by deck number. There was no earlier debarkation for Platinum.

Bibble Posted January 28, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) We always put stuff aside to pack in car and somehow managed to not pack shoes last cruise so got to wear sneakers the entire cruise. Not as bad as some though. lol On a weekend cruise I also ended up in Keds the entire weekend. Suited me just fine, as then I had an excuse for not wearing heels :) Worse than that, though, was my very first cruise when my best friend forgot her birth certificate. 1992, before cell phones.. dropped off in New York City. No way to reach her husband as he drove down the Garden State Parkway. She finally got a hold of her dad, who broke into her house and had it faxed up to the terminal - thankfully!!!! Have cruised 3 more times with her and will never let her forget that! Edited January 28, 2014 by Bibble
crusinpsychRN Posted January 28, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2014 On Victory and Paradise, they called self-debark by deck number. There was no earlier debarkation for Platinum. I was just on Paradise and platinum was escorted off before decks called. No announcement was made for platinum.

Interesting! They didn't mention that in the debarkation papers on Victory last week. They said they would start letting Deck 1 and 2 off first at around 7:00 and right at 7:00, they announced we could leave. I guess the Platinum guests could leave the ship anytime. They don't have to get off first if they want to hang out longer.
