what do you like/dislike about it? Have you experienced long waits? Do you join dinners in the middle of their meal?

We really liked it - not being expected to be someplace at a particular time really fits in to our idea of vacation.

We did it on the Breeze - last February. There were only 2 of us and the only night we had any wait was about 20 minutes the first Elegant night. But we went right at 7 - "prime time".

Typically we showed up at the hostess station and were seated right away at our own table for 2 - but could have been seated with others if we'd wanted to be. For the ease of the wait staff - they seat whole sections of the dining room at the same general time- but you do not join those who are already being served.

We will definitely do it again - with just 2 of us. Not sure when we cruise with family or friends. I think the larger your group gets the more chance you will have to wait for a table. ;)

We have used it all 3 of our previous cruises and will use it again next week. We have never had any issues getting a 2 person table but they can also set you with a group if you prefer that. The only time we have ever had a wait is elegant night which is only a couple minutes. Never later than 15 minutes or so. They give you a pager and we walk around the photo area. Some people think ATD is a slower experience but we think it is a normal pace.

Why would you think you'd join other diners in the middle of their meal??

It is like a restaurant on land.

You go to the dining room and tell the hostess your cabin number and how many are in your party.

They will then seat you at a table for whatever number you need(2 ,4 etc)

If you like your wait staff you can request their area every night so they get to know you.

If you don't like them you can ask to be seated in a different area. I suppose you can also ask to be seated with other people but we purposely do ATD to get a table for 2. We like to choose our dinner companions so if we meet folks we like at other shipboard activities we may arrange to eat with them. Otherwise we are happy to have our own table.

Just got off the Liberty with ATD. We like to eat early so always there at 5:45. Always had a table for 2 no waiting. The liberty had several two tables along the windows and they filled them first which was really nice. Only one night did we see a line up when we left.
