Sauer-kraut Posted January 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I was reading a review last night and it stated the arcade games were $1.50 a game.

bguppies Posted January 28, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2014 At least people can't say you get "nickeled and dimed" in the arcade. ;)

rvsullivan Posted January 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2014 kids in the arcade will blow a card up in charges dont let em go!!! Two cruises back, there was a 10-11 year old that ran up an $800 tab, mom didn't want to pay. She said the cruise line should not have allowed him to play that much. Last I heard, she paid!! xsvspd Posted January 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We did the Gem twice a couple years back. The first time we went our 11 year old quickly found the card worked in the arcade!! Next cruise we brought his Xbox with us and saved quite a few pages on the bill! It may seem like a waste if they spend time playing in the room but we'll worth saving the extra charges!! tallyho8 Posted January 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2014 On my last cruise there was a machine in the casino that cost $1 a play and you had to line up the pointer with a keyhole to win $500. I was shocked to go in the arcade and see the exact same machine but there is cost $1.25 to play and if you won you only got a cheap toy. It seems the kids are much more willing to spend their parents money than the parents are and don't care about the odds. Tammy10000 Posted April 23, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Just found this like from a Google search. Can someone tell me if the arcade on the Gem takes something other than the cruise card?? Can you purchase tokens?
psk2347 Posted April 23, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Arcades on cruise ships are a rip off. Games cost anywhere from $1.50 - $5.00 per play. Most of them feature some type of way to win a prize, and all the machines are rigged. There are very few actual video games inside the arcade. The only way to access the machines is to use the card. If I were a parent I would make sure my child could not charge anything to his card through the duration of the trip, including the arcade. You don't want any surprises come day 7. mjkacmom Posted April 23, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 23, 2016 If your kids are responsible enough to be out and about without you, they should understand a spending limit. My kids never went over, but if they did, there would be consequences, including having to pay me back.

Thank you for the explanation. Looks like I'll be blocking their cards otherwise I WOULD have a surprise come day 7 lol

Did the Xbox work in the room? I know the arcade will be a big thing for him and we plan on giving him a budget (who knows if that will work), but the Xbox would definitely save a bit it if worked in the room. Farmer at sea Posted March 24, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 24, 2018 We just sailed with our 14yo for his first cruise. We put a cash deposit on his room card vs connected to the CC. He is responsible and did well. He brought he handheld game along but it ended up staying in the room and he was out and about the entire cruise. Teen club, met friends, pool deck etc. As far as cost. Figure the basic arcade pricing except instead of inserting bills or coins it's swipe a card but from what our son said the choices weren't that good either. Guess they have video games in the teen center and kids club too but he didn't play those either.
