hannahsmomtoo Posted January 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Sailing the Fascination 10/2014 We have done the Splendor, as well as the Magic the past two years. Should I be concerned that this is an older ship ( 1994 I believe )?
Phlybice Posted January 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Not at all. In fact, the only reason we don't sail the Fantasy class is the lack of balcony cabins. We do like the layout and the intimacy.
cruizinisthebest Posted January 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I think you'll like the Fascination. I did. It was my first cruise.
GTO-Girl Posted January 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Yes the ship is older, but the crew is great and the ship is kept very clean. We very much enjoyed our cruises on the Fascination!
SMSACE6 Posted January 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I have only sailed that class of ship, on the Sensation way back in 2000, but loved that ship. Only reason I havent sailed on that class again is because, I prefer 7 or 8 day cruises, and my preferred departure ports dont have that class ship for those itineraries. I wouldnt worry about it at all.
2Shoes2Go Posted January 31, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We really enjoy the Fascination. It has it's own niche in our cruise experience. Small, intimate, very friendly. As far as itineraries, we love Key West. Doing two five nights makes a good, reasonably priced B2B for us. Excited to check out the concerts! Mostly we relax and visit on the Fascination. Should I be concerned that this is an older ship ( 1994 I believe )? Not at all! It's great to sail the different classes - they are are somewhat unique with different "personalities". Just don't go expecting it to have all of the things the Splendor did - the Rotissere for instance.
PC Cruisin Posted January 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Sailing the Fascination 10/2014 We have done the Splendor, as well as the Magic the past two years. Should I be concerned that this is an older ship ( 1994 I believe )? I sailed on her in April 2013. Beautiful ship. If you look under my signature I have pictures of that cruise so you can see a better view of the ship before you sail on her ;)
silverpenguin Posted January 31, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 31, 2014 She was our first cruise & we've booked her again. Just understand she is older & smaller with not as much to "do". I think the Fascination (and others in its class) is the best ship to relax on, so if that is what you want to do, you'll have a great time! nodogkisses Posted January 31, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Fascination was also my first Carnival cruise. Love that ship. I've since sailed her three times and also sailed on several other Fantasy class ships. After I've been on the larger class ships and newer ships, I always feel a little apprehensive when booking the older and smaller Fantasy class and then when first boarding the ship, I feel a little let down. But, after about ten minutes, I'm happy and feel like I'm "back home" again.
cookiejarvis Posted January 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Just did her for New Years . We love the fantasy class. Fascination is very clean. Everything worked for us. Great Bartender at the aft bar on promenade deck...ask for Achmed.
hannahsmomtoo Posted January 31, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Thank you all... We do plenty of active excursions in the ports ... The ship is really just a place to relax.. So it sounds perfect. I think my question was more geared towards safety of the vessel because of it's age? I will be honest .. I have NO knowledge of how long ships stay at sea .... Phlybice Posted January 31, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We booked a balcony ...? Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Meant standard. To get a balcony on that class, you had to book a suite, or a Jr. Suite, although the latter was hardly worth it, due to size and location. Not sure if the Fascination was one of those ships they added the balcony to the outside rooms in the aft and sides.
cruisescouter Posted January 31, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I have sailed many of the sister ships and they have always been fun and usually with an amazing staff. Like someone else said all the ships have their own personalities.
carrieluvsgreg Posted January 31, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Whether or not you enjoy her will depend on you. Don't go expecting all the bells and whistles of the big ships. It can be a little shocking when you first walk aboard and realize there are two glass elevators instead of 4. (Not that I care about the elevators in particular... It's just a reference point for how much smaller of a vessel you're on than before...). That said, we've sailed out of Jacksonville on the fascination 2 times (both itineraries) and we really liked the ship and the crew. We live 20 minutes from the port, so it's a cheap option for us. The reason it's not our #1 choice is the itineraries, not the ship herself. We much rather sail to the Caribbean than the Bahamas. Right now they don't offer that option out of j' ille, unless it's recently changed.
2Shoes2Go Posted January 31, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Fascination has retrofitted balconies, aft and aft facing. They are a nice size. I wouldn't have one of the Junior Suites on Verandah deck on any of the Fantasy class ships. The balconies there are so small you can't sit with your legs comfortably in front of you and facing outward. The Grands are fine, cove type balconies. Should I be concerned that this is an older ship ( 1994 I believe )? I have been on the Fantasy (1990) x1 and the Ecstasy (1991) x4 same class as Fascination. By far the Ecstasy is still my favorite ship. The youngest ship I have been on is the Magic and the Ecstasy is still my favorite.
jadenman3000 Posted January 31, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Don't worry! In-fact I had a blast in the Summer of 2012, We traveled to the Bahamas (A 5-Day Caribbean Cruise) on the Fascination. The staff were very helpful & they kept up on the room cleaning service (Daily) I would completely go on that ship again! ~ Have fun!
