NanaP1398 Posted February 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2014 We will be on Serenade March 1st out of Nola - Can't wait! Just wondering if there were any good dance bands on board? Not head banging music, but older rock? Also how was the casino?

sunandsnow Posted February 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2014 We were on the 1/18 sailing. They had a good band in the Centrum upon boarding from New Orleans. They were fun to listen to We liked the band D'Version. They played classic rock - some Beatles, Eagles, Credence and a variety of other songs. We also liked to listen to Clark Sullivan who played country songs. There was also a band called Just Us. They also were good. Latin music with a group called Azucar. Piano with Simon John (and guitar melodies with Eugene Apa (he also played a couple of evenings in the main dining room) and we liked him. We missed having a good band on the pool deck. We have always enjoyed listening to some good Caribbean music when sailing to the Caribbean. Just Us played a couple of times at the pool but not very much music on the pool deck. We never went to the Casino but overheard a passenger say he won $1700 for the week in the Casino. Not sure what he was playing.
NanaP1398 Posted February 6, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Oh I hope D'Version is still on the ship! They sound like what we'd like. Thank you for letting me know. I am disappointed to hear there's no Caribbean music at the pool though. Yeah it's always the other guy that wins at the casino anyway!

I hope your chances that D'Version, Just Us and Azucar will be playing on your cruise are pretty good. We sailed on The Serenade for its 9-day cruise on December 12, 2013, and these are the three bands that we listened to too. We loved the music of Just Us and Azucar did play by the pool on our last sea day. Azucar probably played the pool area every day but the last sea day is the only day that we actually sat by the pool. Other days we were in the Serenity area relaxing while reading our E-books. tjstaar7888 Posted February 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2014 D'Version was on the 1/25 sailing and played a lot. They were up and down, but the Creedence set was great. We had a duo called Island something (can't remember) that wasn't that good. They had 50's rock and 70's disco dances in the centrum. They were both packed, looked like fun. Only saw D'Version by the pool deck once. Then again, our weather wasn't always great (cold in NO, rain on one sea day). There was a Zydeco band (didn't catch the name) that played only on Saturday during embarkation. They were really good, and I wish they had been on the entire cruise. According to the Cruise Compass, the Cajun band (I err on it being a Cajun band rather than zydeco since they didn't have a rubboard) was The New Orleans Trio.
