CruisinJohn Posted February 21, 2014 #51 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hi David! I was hoping you would start a thread for the Regal Princess and share your knowledge and information with everyone. It's what you do! For that, I kindly thank you. Having learned so much about the Royal from your previous threads before ever cruising on her, I know just how much I'm going to enjoy learning all about the Regal well before my cruises on her this coming November. Thank you again for your time and efforts! :) Best Regards, John

sunsetbeachgal Posted February 21, 2014 #55 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hi Dave! Do we know if the center staircase was made open to passengers on the Regal? dmwnc1959 Posted February 21, 2014 Author #56 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hi Dave! Do we know if the center staircase was made open to passengers on the Regal? I remember from the Royal thread that there is a center staircase, but for crew only on the Royal? Still no absolute confirmation from Princess Cruises that this will exist, although it was mentioned in another thread that during a recent Q&A session on Royal Princess the speaker said that the center stairwell would not be made available for passenger use. Guess we'll have to wait and see. It may be until the Maiden Voyage that we know for sure.

Azjack Posted February 22, 2014 #58 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Your work on the Royal was a great resource. I followed the thread every day, right up to boarding for the maiden T/A. I am so happy to see that you have started the Regal thread. We loved the Royal, and enjoyed the T/A so much that we are on the Regal's maiden crossing in October. I wonder if the well documented soot problem will have an impact on the aft pool. I don't remember noticing any problems on that aft deck of the Royal, but we didn't spend much time there (too many smokers). Thanks again! sashas_mom Posted February 22, 2014 #59 Share Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Dave, it's so wonderful to see you posting about the Regal. I look forward to every moment. Dave, you always seem to have pictures to cover whatever people ask of you. I was wondering if there us a site where you have them compiled other than finding them on your threads. Like the guy who has a blog for the obstructed cabins that is so helpful. Do you know where pictures of cabins on different ships can be accessed? Like good inside cabins or certain cabins are larger than others, etc. Figure if anyone would know, it would be you. Thanks. I have all of them memorized as to where they are in relation to the cruise, so it's relatively easy for me to hunt them down. The links for the LIVE thread and all of my Royal Princess photo albums can be found in my signature, but I'll post them here just in case. I remember it all... the 'Everything' thread, the Maiden Voyage thread from Southampton, all of the LIVE threads from the Med, and the T/A crossing 'combined thread' you contributed to. Your contributions, and the way you expressed your concerns after leaving Venice, have been key in letting us know that all was not sunshine and roses for everyone. On Regal's maiden voyage. If no definitive answer by then, I'll post whether or not central stairs are usable by passengers... I sure hope so! THANKS!!! :D I wonder if the well documented soot problem will have an impact on the aft pool. Hopefully Av8tor can do a makeshift LIVE thread once aboard and let us know. No new news today on Regal Princess. I don't expect this thread to compete with the 'Everything' thread, and certainly don't expect it to remain on Page 1 of the forum. I'll definitely post anything that comes to light as soon as I find it. But in the mean time if anyone sailing Regal Princess has questions about the ship, it's venues, or it's design feel free to ask. Quite a few of us have cruised Royal Princess and will be glad to help. :D Edited February 22, 2014 by dmwnc1959

Grego Posted February 22, 2014 #65 Share Posted February 22, 2014 On Regal's maiden voyage. If no definitive answer by then, I'll post whether or not central stairs are usable by passengers... I sure hope so! Somewhere I have seen the artist rendering of the Piazza area with the central staircase shown. I guess we are all looking to see actual interior photos of this area to confirm that they will be there on the Regal. In addition, would love to see how they completed the Promenade Deck walkway around the forward section of the deck to form a loop instead of the dead end on both starboard and port areas of the deck on the Royal. dmwnc1959 Posted February 22, 2014 Author #66 Share Posted February 22, 2014 In addition, would love to see how they completed the Promenade Deck walkway around the forward section of the deck to form a loop instead of the dead end on both starboard and port areas of the deck on the Royal. This is NOT going to happen. I've posted this on several threads, and it bears repeating.... Regal Princess will NOT have a walk-around promenade deck. There was talk that the current open areas (the promenade deck 'porches') would be 'connected' by the areas behind the lifeboats which is currently restricted for crew use only. There will be no aft walkway around the stern, nor forward around the bow. If what they were taking about did happen, the only walkable areas would be along the length of the ship, and the port side will not connect to the starboard side. Here is the link the the article: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5623

kendon Posted February 22, 2014 #68 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Thanks Dave for doing this. I will be on the first 2 Carib sailings in Nov. and look forward to your news and updates.Sali The first Caribbean sailings of the Royal are the eastern Caribbean (just back)...same with the Regal. I'd book the Regal right now for the fall if the itinerary was different. Just rec'd the Holland America mailing today, great Caribbean itineraries!! Come on Princess, new ship...new itinerary please. Three port eastern is boooring.
dmwnc1959 Posted February 22, 2014 Author #69 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Thanks for the update. Funny that the deck plans shown by Princess indicates a walk around the aft. Have you been on this class of ship yet? I was on Royal Princess for two weeks, even spent time relaxing on the aft promenade deck, and that exact same deck plan 'error' that shows some sort of aft connection simply does not exist. And it will also 'not exist' on Regal Princess.

Come on Princess, new ship...new itinerary please. Three port eastern is boooring. For some folks doing this same itineray, the 'been there, done that' itinerary, the ship is the draw. The opportunity to just relax for an entire week without the distraction of the ports of call. That's pretty much why Royal Princess repeats are booking Regal Princess. And why I certainly don't mind doing this exact same itinerary again even though I did it twice on a B2B this past December. Holland-America maybe has better itineraries because their ships, although they are nice, may not be quite as new, interesting, or have as much to offer. ;) The three port eastern on Regal Princess is just fine by me. :D
TorontoTL Posted February 22, 2014 #71 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I agree with you Dave, the Royal really was the destination for us too. I would book the Regal just to be on the ship again. I totally agree with the NO-pressure sailing on a "been there, done that" itinerary. I did that on the Royal and intend to do it on the Regal, but on the Regal I'll have my normal sailing partner with me, so it will be somewhat of a "show and tell" trip as well! :D

Kenosha Cruiser Posted February 23, 2014 #75 Share Posted February 23, 2014 Dave, so glad to see you back. It was so much fun last year following your thread on the Royal Princess. I'm sure this thread on the Regal Princess will be just as good! Were cruising on the Regal the week of Nov. 9th with the second bag of mixed nuts roll call group. It's will be a blast, wish you could join us. I'm also waiting patiently to see who Princess selects as the new godmother of the Regal. It will be interesting to find out. Again Dave, thanks for starting this thread. Cheers - Ken & Darlene
