Cruise Etiquette: What have passengers done onboard your cruise that was rude?

Recommended Posts

I find the rudest behavior is when I see scooters and wheelchairs waiting patiently for an elevator and able bodied individuals rush ahead of them when the elevator door opens. The reason this irritates me so much, is because these people often have to wait a long time any way and they don't have the option of taking the stairs. :(

I'll be the first guy to stand aside for scooters and wheelchairs but I have to admit I got a chuckle when two scooter collided trying to get on an elevator at the same time. There was some seriously nasty looks exchanged.

I am always amazed by the people that push their way on to an elevator that is obviously already full. I also don't understand why some people will try to get on to an elevator before letting people get off.

Yes! This is what I was going to say as well as we saw both of these happen a great deal on our last cruise.

Kids, and young kids at that, being encouraged by their parents to see how many lifts / elevators they could run into and how many floor buttons they could press.

Needless to say the kids were running around screaming, literally running into people whilst the parents stood around watching them laughing.

Luckily I speak several languages well enough that I picked the right language to tell them to get out!

This is a pet peeve of mine (no matter where it happens) - people stopping to have conversations in the middle of a high traffic area! Oh yeah, and walking two or three abreast down a stateroom corridor and then giving you the stink eye when they have to move aside to let you pass:(.

Yes! Also sitting on the stairs. On my last cruise disembarkation was delayed by 8 hours due to fog. It was about 45 minutes prior to the self assist debarkation and the bathroom near my disembarkation point was out of order. There were people sitting on the stairs and the elevators were blocked. I may not have been so polite about getting through to use the restroom when several excuse mes were ignored.:o

This is just a pet peeve in general for me, but we experienced this a lot on the Oasis last week...people getting on the elevator before you get off. I always thought it was common courtesy to let people off of the elevator before you get on,

DW and I were on a group cruise with about 250 participants, one of our activities was to decorate our doors, then later in the week there would be door judging contest. Well, someone went around and removed most/all the decorations from everyone's door.

THANK YOU!

I am stuck in a scooter now since an accident years ago. Happily, these scooter rentals give me the freedom to enjoy my travels again.

It's surprising how we can suddenly become invisible in these big, heavy machines. People will dart in front of me, I even had someone physically push me so hard out of the way, I nearly flew off my scooter.

After a few years of this.....and a Disney trip or two, Hubby and I have a routine now. He plows the road for me....opening a hole I drive through so everyone is happy.

We haven't solved the elevator jumpers. Seems heading down for dinner can be the worst time to try to get a scooter on an elevator. When especially bad, we just take the elevator UP, then ride it back down.

Trust me. If there was any way I could walk long distances, the scooter would be a memory.

I DO bring a little bike bell to jingle. It always makes people smile....happy little sound. If I'm stuck in that bloody chair, I'm going to enjoy the smiles!

Not a passagner story but a bartender on the EOS, feb. 9 sailing. Four of us were drinking at the sports bar, having fun and being silly. Well we ran into someone from the same county as us so they joined in with our silliness but the bartender didn't like it and started rolling his eyes at us.

The rude bartender who looked down his nose at me, not once but twice, in the Chamber. I guess I wasn't young and pretty enough for him. No wonder the Chamber was always dead

I would love to meet you on a cruise someday. Especially in an elevator area. I would gladly publicly humiliate anyone that jumps in front of a chair. I have been known to block the paths of other to let a polite chair user into an elevator. I did it for one lady who was so visibly upset. After chasing a group of teens out of an elevator for her, she gave me the sweetest hug, and said thank you after telling me she had been trying to get onto an elevator for about 15 minutes, but nobody would give her the room to do so.

When I travel with my sister who uses a scooter, I am the clearer, protector etc. and it seems to work well. The rudest thing I have seen is when we were in an elevator, the doors opened and a man pushed his stroller half way though the door and said "They are coming!" That was okay by me. Until he kept the stroller there and kept looking and looking.. Well while he was looking I quietly moved the "empty" stroller out and closed the door.

As long as the stroller was empty, I would have pushed it in, went to a different floor and pushed it out and around the corner.

Chairs hogs at the entertainment venues. I hate it when people saves spots for others and then give you a dirty look as if to say "don't even think of parking your butt here." It's even worse when the saving is for a larger group.

I also noticed the number of passengers on Oasis pushing their way into the elevator (which was often full) before people can get out. So rude!

Another thing that annoyed me on Oasis is when the 70s or 80s party was on in the promenade and the cruise staff and passengers are dancing and people are just standing in the middle of the walkway doing nothing ... just watching but not getting out of the way. Some even video the staff and passengers having a good time - and then when you accidentally dance on their foot, look out, evil looks all round!

Two weeks ago we were in the centrum on the the Serenade to watch the cake decorating contest. There were about five open seats, so we went to sit down when a guy told us that all those seats were saved. (He was about 65 years old, and was wearing a Carnival lanyard.) I stood next to him, my wife sat on the floor next to him. No one ever came to use the seats.

Thank you!

My Jim has always been so helpful but now even more understanding. He had a minor triple axel, double toe loop on the ice and onto crutches for about 6 weeks. Imagine navigating the NYC subway at rush hour on crutches. He now totally understands the frustrations of being overlooked when you have a handicap.

Well.......if you are cruising and ever hear a bike bell ringing, it could be ME!

Oh yes, we always head down to our Mustar station well ahead of the crowds.

1. People pushing their way onto the elevators before allowing others to get off.

2. Table hogs in the WJ, especially when people are walking around looking for a place to sit down.

3. Chair hogs at the pool, especially at the solarium pool.

I'm sure I could think of more rude behaviors that we always encounter, but I try not to dwell on it;):)

Yes! This job always seems to be delegated to the group's 90-year old grandmother (while the rest of the family is having a drink in the bar or hitting the casino!) Poor thing can hardly navigate the seating herself and she is charged with trying to save 12 seats!

Hi All

In 2012 whilst on the Oasis someone in an electric scooter ran up the back of my heel and as they came from behind I did not see her coming and I could not get out of her way. I had already hurt my foot when we did a lot of walking in New York prior to the cruise (out of condition basically) so now I have permanent damage to my heel. She also ran into a little girl of about 4 standing near me at the same time. Please don't shoot me but I kind of blame RCI they have these sales (wallets watches etc) on and they display the goods so early before you can buy them and people get into a frenzy by the time the sale starts and this is when it happened. I also made the same comment to the staff member when I complained about what happened. Other than that I have not run into (haha) any rude people while cruising.

Kids messing around would be my number 1.

As my OH is wheelchair bound after an accident, we depend on the lifts to get to places. Maybe as non-parents we have less patience than most, but kids pressing every button there is just for fun can really get annoying.

We now choose to cruise out of season to avoid the nuisance of unruly children , and eat later, show up early for shows etc to avoid the scrum that happens at peak times. Some people really are very inconsiderate , but like OH says - it`s not their fault he can`t get around.

Rant over :)

Windjammer irritation (other than how long people sit there oblivious to those that want to eat even though they are done)

How many times I have seen people just throw the serving tongs into the middle of the food so when you pick them up not only are they covered in food but also everyone's germs are now in the food! And people wonder why there is norovirus:rolleyes:

Please put the serving utensils/ tongs back on the plate in front that they normally have, place the tongs over the edge at the front or better still pass them to the next person in line with a smile and wish them a nice day:)
