popcan Posted March 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Just recently returned from the 28 day Asian Collector cruise. In case you choose not to make the long drive in to Bangkok from Laem Chabang, DO go to Pattaya and see The Sanctuary of Truth. We had heard that Pattaya was mostly a place to go see old men with young Thai girls, but here is a gem worth going to visit. The entire place is made of wood, and is hand carved. Work is still ongoing. Awesome! According to Wiki; The project was initiated as an idea of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is scheduled to be complete in 2025. The style of the Sanctuary evokes Khmer architecture, displaying hand-carved wooden sculptures indicative of the imperial setting at Angkor. It has four gopura, respectively representing images from the Buddhist and Hindu religions and mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand.[1] According to the official website, its purpose is to use art and culture as "a reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia" .
