MissCruiseAddict Posted March 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2014 So I find on every cruise my hair ends up getting frizzy and full of static even though I use the same shampoo and conditioner and blow dryer and flat iron that I use at home. Anyone have any tips to help tame my hair? I know the frizz has to be because of the sea air and the water I'm showering with.
Anita Latte Posted March 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2014 The frizz and static is a result of your hair being dry. There are expensive oil based products that are intended to help defrizz your hair...in practice, it's almost like putting lotion or other moisturizer onto your skin...except that it's your hair. But I've read about people using oils that are more typically found in your kitchen...olive oils and coconut oils. The trick is to find the right kind of moisturizer for YOUR hair, but that's what you need. Something to add moisture to your hair.
MissCruiseAddict Posted March 18, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I know it's the sea air drying my hair out. It's odd because I use a mositurizing shampoo and conditioner. This past cruise I found that adding a bit of conditioner in with my shampoo helped some. So essentially I was double conditioning.
cocod08 Posted March 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I would try a leave-in conditioner next time or just don't rinse out all of the conditioner when you do your hair. I find this helps me in the dry winter months
MissCruiseAddict Posted March 18, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted March 18, 2014 No can do on the leave in conditioner. I have fine hair and it just weighs it down if I do leave in and makes my hair look greasy
cb at sea Posted March 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2014 The ship's water is VERY, VERY soft...little or no minerals in it, so it can take a lot of time to rinse the shampoo. Use less shampoo than you would use at home...a dab will lather and lather.... And, go easy on the blow-drying! I find the humidity at sea keeps my hair from being staticy! LrgPizza Posted March 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I've used Sebastian Potion #9 wearable hair treatment for many years. It really helps keep the frizz away when on cruises. I also have fine hair, and this doesn't weigh it down like a leave in conditioner (I can't use those!). There is a generic version at Sally Beauty Supply (if you have those near where you live) that is a fraction the cost of the original and works identically. MollyFlyer Posted March 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Try a hair lotion -- I have frizzy hair even when I'm not on vacation and find that helps. And unlike mousse, you can pack it on a plane.
kris2cruise Posted March 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I have really thin hair too & I started using WEN products. My hair has never been healthier & the days of frizz are no longer a problem for me!
mousey Posted March 19, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2014 There are a variety of hair oils that work great on frizzy hair. Coconut oil is a good one as is Argon (sp?) oil.:D
LazyDays64 Posted March 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2014 I use Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme. You put it on after you dry your hair. I have curly hair and it can get pretty frizzy at times and this stuff seems to help. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=43366&catid=183511&aid=338666&aparam=43366
