3 days precruise copenhagen

We are spending 3 days precruise in Copenhagen. Should we book tour packages or can we do this on our own? This is our 1st trip to this city. Are there tour maps available, is getting around on your own easy when you do not speak the language. So many questions. Any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you:)

Do it yourself. Get a copy of Rick Steves book on Copenhagen or his larger Scandinavia book which includes all of the smaller one. He has the best walks and museum tours of any guidebook I have found. We have used it there 3 times and still have things to see. His maps are pretty good and every hotel has maps available at the desk. The main tourist area to see is quite compact - maybe a mile across. Walking is the way to go as you will see more that way but the bus system is good, too

Everyone recommends the canal tour(s). You can book them on the spot at your convenience. No need to book ahead just decide which one you want. Do watch the weather forecast and pick the best day. These open boats are no fun in the rain!

Also, pretty much everyone speaks good English so there are no communication problems.

Enjoy!

Hi, we also will fly in for our cruise (probably 4 days before). We also dock overnight when we return so will have a day then.

I've just started researching. Can anyone recommend some day trips from Copenhagen. Or would it be good to spend 3 days travelling and seeing more of Denmark, then see Copenhagen on our return?

Any advice welcome. Thanks!

If I may suggest a trip outside Copenhagen then it must be a trip to the islands south of Funen.

Ærø (Aeroe) in particular with the cozy towns of Marstal and Ærøskøbing.

The best option is to find a Inn, Hostel or small hotel on the island because summer cottages is mostly rented for 1 week at a time.

And when you are in the area then a visit to Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace and museum in Odense on Fyn (Funen) is worth a visit.

If you use public transport you will end in Odense anyway because the Intercity train from Copenhagen stops here and its only a little bit more than one hours travel time.

Then you'll either take a bus to Faaborg and ferry to Ærø or a train to Svendborg and ferry from there.
