dawnskers Posted February 13, 2006 #51 Share Posted February 13, 2006 Thanks for all the hours you've obviously spent on this review- my husband and I are booked aboard the Island Princess northbound next August 21-28 with a land tour on our own afterwards (thanks, Budget Queen for all your advice regarding the latter!). This was way more informative than any of the guidebooks I've been reading- fabulous details and hints that will make our trip so much more enjoyable. You are so kind to share your experiences with the rest of us... :) :) :)
dreamer13 Posted February 13, 2006 #52 Share Posted February 13, 2006 Numbers--we were thinking about doing the same 2 excursions in Skagway in May, but we were worried about feeling rushed. The dogsledding returns at 10:45 and there is a Glacier point safari at 2:30. Is that enough time to walk around the city? We're debating between the Safari or one of the Dewey Lake trails out of town. Any advice/insight is appreciated.
Numbers Posted February 14, 2006 Author #53 Share Posted February 14, 2006 The two tours are definetly doable -- whether you'll feel rushed is a function of what you are comfortable with. We went back on the ship between the two tours, had lunch and rested for awhile. I'm not in good shape, and the dogsledding tired me out a bit. The time between the two tours was plenty of time for me to recover (also note that the Wilderness Safari starts out as a 45 minute boat ride, so that will provide some time to wind down if necessary). Not sure if I would have felt the same if we had been wandering around the town instead of resting on the ship, but I'd do both in one day again. Don't know about the Dewey Lake trails, so I can't comment. We loved our tours, though.

flyerfan22 Posted March 14, 2006 #56 Share Posted March 14, 2006 Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing such a detailed informative review. As I read it, I've been cutting out excerpts and sending emails to my husband. Oh, I want to do this. I want to do that. We might have to take out a 2nd mortgage, but it sounds wonderful!! Thanks!
