5 days- Brugge to Amsterdam - Help!

Recommended Posts

We are in our Early 70s and fairly active. We have 5 nights before cruise leaving Amsterdam and wondered if following will work: Flying in to Brussels, train to Brugge for 2 night stay then train to Amsterdam for 3 night stay. We will have cruise luggage (one piece luggage plus one carry on each). Also, I like to say we are bike riders, not cyclists,,in other words, we like easy and flat. We would like to take easy bike rides. Are trains manageable for inexperienced.? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We will have the 5 days beginning July 15.

Trains are easily manageable. Reserve your seats.

Your hotels can help you with bike rentals. I would suggest that you each take a lock as it is necessary in Amerstdam. Everyone has a bike and rides it. Most cities in the Netherlands have bike lanes. Both Bruge and the Netherlands are flat and can easily visited by bike. A lovely country ride out of Amerstdam could be great fun as well as ride in Vondel Park in Amsterdam. In Bruge it is hard to get around by bike. Most walk or take the bus. Side trips by train, to Ghent, and Antwerp are easily done from Bruge.

You can purchase traintickets on line via nshighspeed.nl. The earlier you book, the more chance you can get the cheapest rate.

You will need to change trains at Brussels. From Brussels to Amsterdam you will have assigned seats, and the train has room to stow larger pieces of luggage. Brugge to Brussels is a regular service, and you will have a bit more difficulty with large luggage. Outside rush ours this should be OK though. Don't expect porters to be available at the train stations.

Just do what you planned, Bruges is very nice!

At Brussels airport you can take the train to Brugge, unfortunatly no more direct trains.

Easy to follow the sign for trainstation and then buy your ticket.

First Zaventem- nationale luchthaven to Brussels (any station will do: centraal, noord, zuid) and then change train to Brugge.

No reservations needed, we only have reservaton system for internnational trains, not for national trains.

No porters at the station. If you have trouble with your suitcase just ask someone, who is getting on the train also, to help you.

Bruges is very small and you can visit all by walking, no need to get a bike. If you like cycling there is a lovely cyclingpath around the citywalls, you get to see all the mills. Bicycles to rent at several points in the city.

Enjoy your visit and don't forget to eat wafles.

If you like some advice on a nice place for lunch: the Cafedraal set lunch for €16. From the card it is more expensive.

Enjoy your visist!!!! Hope you like the city as much as I do.
