Rare Lois R Posted May 28, 2014 Author #26 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Wow Lois, that's one slow train! I guess that just leaves you American and USAir to MIA?? Hang in there, Kel:) Hi Kelly, yes, AA flies from here to Miami....I am still trying to decide what to do.
Rare Lois R Posted May 28, 2014 Author #27 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Silver Airways will start the route in August. http://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2014/05/27/silver-airlines-flying-between-jacksonville-and.html Though I'd take American Eagle and it's nicer regional jets to a nicer airport over Silver Airways to that dump known as FLL. Thanks for the link:)........the dump FLL?..I much prefer it to that bigger dump known as MIA:eek:.......
vjmatty Posted May 28, 2014 #28 Share Posted May 28, 2014 One additional thought. Spend the day touring New Orleans. Great city, especially if you go beyond just the tourist traps in the Quarter. I too was puzzled by the characterization of "sitting around" in New Orleans....and I've been there twice for a week each time. Miami on the other hand, I'd understand ;)

kenish Posted May 28, 2014 #31 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Silver Airways will start the route in August. Though I'd take American Eagle and it's nicer regional jets to a nicer airport over Silver Airways to that dump known as FLL. Silver Airways has a long history of bending safety rules, falsifying or limiting duty hour and maintenance records provided to the FAA, using trainee co-pilots where a fully qualified one was required, and has incurred some large FAA fines. A lessor took back some aircraft because the airline was not maintaining them to expected standards. I'm not saying Silver is unsafe, but they are less safe than other choices and safety doesn't seem to be "baked in" their culture. They haven't had a fatal accident and there seem to be fewer problems in the past 1-2 years. On the business side they are dropping and changing a lot of their operations and routes lately. Caveat emptor, and do some due diligence. I personally wouldn't hesitate to take a flight or two on Silver but would think twice about using them regularly. I'm not sure when you last visited, but MIA has two brand new terminals. AA flies Miami-Jacksonville and operates out of the multi-billion dollar North Concourse facility which is one the nicest in the country - great shopping and food. That said, you can also now use JetBlue. They announced today that they will fly FLL-JAX twice a day beginning October 29th.

I rarely fly to from or through Miami but recently found myself transiting JAX-MIA-GRU and was surprised how nice MIA was. Shops and restaurants seemed quite nice, but I visited neither. They have those American Eagle small planes and then they can't even dock at the terminal.....you have to get on a shuttle after landing to get you into the terminal. Did that change in 2013? I have flown here to there a few times over the past few years....it was a pain every time. AA/American Eagle has a new terminal? For me? Ft. Lauderdale is just so easy:)...piece of cake.....off the plane, downstairs to baggage claim...transportation just outside. Looks like I have new choices.......I didn't know Jet Blue is now flying from here to Ft. Lauderdale:) Edited May 28, 2014 by Lois R

Rare Lois R Posted May 28, 2014 Author #37 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Why don't you drive, we live North of you in South Georgia and drive to South Florida. Because I no longer want to drive down. I prefer to just fly the hour and 20 or so minutes and be there.

Yes, that changed. No more buses. The terminal is incredibly nice. FLL is a seriously one of the worst airports in the country - Southwest uses a nice terminal, but the rest of the terminals, including JetBlue's and Spirit's, could seriously compete with many rundown air fields in Africa. Rare Lois R Posted May 29, 2014 Author #39 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Thanks for the information. No more shuttle buses for the American Eagle flights? News to me for sure. We will just have to agree to disagree on the FLL airport. For what I need? It has always been really good. I guess you don't like it and that is your opinion.....that is the nice thing about opinions......we all have them.:)
