Kiwi Kruzer Posted May 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2014 Heres a thread , just for a bit of fun. As you all know by now, P&O is going to get 2 ships transferred to it from Holland America....Statendam and Ryndam. What do you think the new ships should be named when they come to Australia . ? aussiecruiser275 Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2014 i was waiting to see how long it would take before this thread would appear. We could always go back to Pacific Star, Sky or Sun. What about a reincarnation of out famous Fairstar But i do like Pacific Opal, Although P&O have taken aback from naming ships with Princess ships of the same name so the options are pretty limited. We could always go back

VK3DQ Posted June 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 24, 2014 TweedleDam and TweedleDee?:p This is a bit of a shame , they are two quite nice ships , about 2/3 of the way through their lives , they could be nice if well run. I fear that P&O Australia will run them into the ground as their next pair of "party boats" They need to move away from the "pacific" prefix that is well and truly tainted and is not doing them any favors at all. P&O Need to bring back the "POSH" and draw on their history for the names of these "new" ships There a plenty of good choices there but I suspect all this will be lost in the marketing hype Regards John

Or redo old classics like the Canberra and Oriana.:D

Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 7, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted July 7, 2014 SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of £17,000,000. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, GBE, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and made her maiden voyage starting in June. In the 1982 Falklands War she served as a troop ship.
