SMN73 Posted June 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I am reading reviews about different ships and see a lot of people talk about sunrise pictures and I see many photos of common areas with no people (pool decks, etc). That made me wonder... What time do you get up while on a cruise? I am not a morning person but would love to be able to be up and enjoy some quiet time in "prime" areas. Ocean Boy Posted June 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I'm usually out of the cabin by 5 AM. I like to pick up a cup of coffee and take a walk around the ship and out on deck. You soon get to "meet" the morning folks. It is the same people every day and there are not very many of us. Mostly you have the ship to yourself. It is so peacefull and great to watch the sunrise or the approach to a port of call. If I ever slept in and missed a morning I'd be really disappointed with myself. jules815 Posted June 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I'm not as early as Ocean Boy, but I'm always up and heading down to the promenade for a cup of tea for me, and coffee for my husband, around 6am. I can't sleep in at home, and no matter how hard I try, I can't sleep in on vacation either. I love early morning on a ship!
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted June 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I like to walk a mile before breakfast.... sunrise from the running track is wonderful and cooler than when the sun gets up too high. Don't usually set my watch on a sea day.... go with the flow....
Desert Cruizers Posted June 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2014 We are generally up and out of our room by 6:45 even on the sea days, can't see wasting the day sleeping in and neither one of us can sleep past 6 AM although DH is up & moving by 5:30. cruisingsince94 Posted June 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Usually by 6am. That's only on a cruise so I will take a nap at some point in the afternoon to make up for the lost sleep. :D
rilco33647 Posted June 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I like to run outside before it gets too hot and humid (which it seems like it is always like that on the Caribbean cruises although we had a freak hot week in Alaska last year) maybe around 6am so I'm up at 5am, eat a banana, get dressed, run, then come back to the cabin for a shower, pick up my husband, and go eat a proper breakfast around 8am. :)
George C Posted June 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I am on vacation so wake up 8 or 9 , just so we are not late for breakfast, we do not go to sleep until 1am or so
hollon Posted June 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Usually 6:30-6:45, then I head down to get my coffee and it is so peaceful, BUT I will say as the cruise goes on, it gets later and later, only b/c of the late shows/activities. I'm an early riser, sometimes, wish I could sleep like a teenager.

thegima Posted June 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Depends on what happens the day/night before... :D If it's a day at sea and we have nothing planned then we'll sleep in and catch a late breakfast in the WJ. If we have an excursion planned I like to get up early and get some food and caffeine in me before the mob hits. It's nice being up and around when everyone is still asleep, it's quiet and peaceful. I enjoy it equally at night though.. although there is not much view when it's pitch black out. I could sit in the viking lounge for hours by a window in the evening though.. love it up there. ;)
nomoreknothead Posted June 12, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Up by 6 - 6:30a.m. , Have coffee on the balcony and then off to the gym! Seems there is not enough hours in the day while on a cruise! :D I love getting up early and then taking that wonderful afternoon nap that I "NEVER" get at home! megr1125 Posted June 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) 5, 6 AM..depends...then it's off to take photos before everyone else on the ship gets up....sometimes I will hit the early bird continental breakfast for some cereal and juice or coffee...then back to sleep some more before really getting moving for the day around 9 or so... Of course, some days I just want to SLEEP...I love my kitty, but it's nice to NOT have her pounce on me...or do cat olympics running through the house...thus, some days, I just sleep in. I agree with ocean boy...it is nice to watch the ship "wake up.." It's peaceful...I do like to be awake before the other 3000 guests, but I am lucky to have cruised enough that I no longer get mad if I sleep in!! I will say this, I hate having random people in my photos!!:D:eek::p Edited June 12, 2014 by megr1125
Langley Cruisers Posted June 12, 2014 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2014 We sleep with the curtains wide open so I get up around 5:40 am or so, have a quick swallow of juice and then head up to the gym. I can't workout with a full stomach so I exercise first then grab coffees on the way back to the cabin. And donuts. For him. Really.

bigeagle12 Posted June 12, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Not a morning person either .. except on a cruise or at the beach. Up 30 minutes before sunrise .. grab coffee and a little snack in the buffet .. then upper decks for pictures of the sunrise. Then go wake up the wife and off to breakfast. jemsjens Posted June 12, 2014 #17 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I always leave the drapes open a bit to let the morning sun in, and that is around 7. We like to have breakfast in the dinning room, than we are out at the pool by 9 and we are able to have pick of the best areas around the pools. crookedhalo Posted June 12, 2014 #19 Share Posted June 12, 2014 In get up for work every day at 4:45am, so my internal clock is timed for that. It takes me a few days of vacation to be able to sleep in past then..and then 'sleeping in' is like 6am:rolleyes:
Yorkvillain Posted June 12, 2014 #20 Share Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) We are always up bright and early, like around 11-11:30 AM. We're night owls on vacation so we usually stay out until 2-3 AM and then sleep in unless we are in port and want to get off the ship earlier. Even then it's like 9 AM that we wake up. Edited June 12, 2014 by Yorkvillain
Wilda Posted June 12, 2014 #21 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Up at 5, have coffee and read the paper online. Out the door by 6 for one hour of walking around the jogging track. Love the early morning...only trade off is we are typically back in the cabin by 10 at night.
Clarea Posted June 12, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 12, 2014 As late as possible, and still make breakfast in the MDR.
Gopher1934 Posted June 12, 2014 #23 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I like to get up 5 to 5:30 am. Very quite time around the ship, I get coffee go sit with the early rising smokers, although I no longer smoke they are great people to be with and talk to. then it is fun to watch the folks try and find pool chairs, so they can leave and come back who knows when. I never get a pool chair I can't sit still in the pool area to need to save a chair. then around 8AM get coffee for my wife and be sure she is getting started for the day. I love morning time on the ship.

Doesn't matter what time I get to bed, I am up by 5:45 and in the gym at 6 am. Get done at 7, take a shower and am up by the pool before 8 or if it is a port day, off the ship by 8 or as early as they let us go.
cruzincurt Posted June 12, 2014 #25 Share Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Since I get up for work at 5:30, on a cruise its 9:00. We usually leave the casino 12:00 or 1:00 depending if we are winning.:) We don't do excursions anymore and perhaps head ashore around noon. During our first cruises, we would get up a 6:00 to watch docking. Edited June 12, 2014 by cruzincurt
