Rare Keith1010 Posted June 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2014 We have sailed from Ocean Terminal once but I didn't pay too much attention to the area right adjacent to it. Question: Are there any hotels in walking distance of the terminal that you would recommend for a two night stay? Other question. Are there any nice hotels in Southampton even if they are not in walking distance of the Ocean Terminal that you would recommend for a two night stay? Thanks, Keith
tartanexile81 Posted June 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) There are lots of reviews on Tripadvisor which are very helpful http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g186299-Southampton_Hampshire_England-Hotels.html Avoid anything near the airport and the Holiday Inn Express which are out of town. We usually use the Premier Inn West Quay which is a very practical option and one of the hotels closest to the Ocean Terminal, but as I said a taxi ride with luggage. This thread is very recent and may help: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2048920&highlight=southampton+hotel There are a number of hotels a short (£5) taxi ride away from the Ocean Terminal. MADflyer Posted June 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2014 I do not think there are any hotels that would be considered walking distance to the Ocean Terminal. You are just as well to stay at almost any hotel toward the West Quay, City Centre or Train Station and it is just a short taxi ride over to the terminal. Depending on the date, the Premier Inn West Quay provides very good value in a good location.
Morgans Posted June 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2014 This is a new one and getting excellent reviews - the Pig in the Wall. Worth a google.
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 30, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Thank you all for your input. If anyone else has suggestions please post. In terms of the Premier Inn West Quay is that also too long a walk to Ocean Terminal. It's hard to tell from a map or are we better off with a taxi. Is it easy to get a taxi? Thanks, Keith
Morgans Posted June 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Premier Inn West quay is a good choice too as has been said. Reception called us a taxi when we stayed there in January.
turnip eater Posted June 30, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2014 This is a new one and getting excellent reviews - the Pig in the Wall. Worth a google. If you stay here, they will take you to their restaurant in the New Forest, at one of their other Pigs http://www.thepighotel.com :) Also, the map on Google had the Pig in the Wall at the wrong location, I believe
Rare John Bull Posted June 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Ennios, Premier Inn West Quay, Grand Harbour, The Dolphin Hotel in the High Street, the Pig In the Wall, and the Holiday Inn on Herbert Walker Ave (but, as the Exile's post, not the Hol Inn Expresses) are within about 3/4 of a mile from Ocean Terminal. All on level ground, with sidewalks, but just that bit too far for most folk to walk with luggage. So any city centre hotel is as convenient to Ocean Terminal as another, and only pennies difference in taxi fares. The new (re-modelled) Pig in the Wall is correctly located on Googlemap, but in totally the wrong place on TripAdvisor's map. Handy little hotel & cruise terminal map at http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_accommodation.htm Pig in the Wall, not yet on this map, is to the right of blue 8, the Grand Harbour. Rare insidecabin Posted June 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Around the same distance as Ennios the places on Oxford street are all under 1km Not looked at the reviews. We used(using) the Star on the high street location good fine for a pre cruise, pub next door pre cruise curry across the street. Hotel needs a lot of TLC so tends to have the lower prices than the more popular places which fill up first. Last time we had the car so tried the Chilworth manor outside the city very nice will use again if we have the car.
