orimeep Posted July 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2014 So, on previous cruises I've missed ports because of weather, etc. but we actually haven't departed... Embarkation was yesterday and there's something wrong with the ship, so 24 hours later we're still sitting here :( Missed our first port (Messina) - hoping we actually get underway today (haven't heard any updates since last night)... Has this happened to anyone before? Hoping we don't spend our entire "cruise" staring at cargo boxes at the Civitavecchia dock!! nekzaadvakil Posted July 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Wow, that's unheard of! Surely they must have an update for everyone on board atleast every 4-5 hours. They will definitely compensate you guys for this change of plans (since its not due to weather problems) Hope you have a good cruise.

orimeep Posted July 5, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted July 5, 2014 We just got a flyer in the stateroom telling us they're still planning on a mid-afternoon departure today and offering an onboard credit as a "gesture of goodwill and to thank you for your understanding" And as I was typing the captain just announced that the mechanical issue has been fixed and we'll be departing shortly! Yay!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
DEalfinder Posted July 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2014 My sister and her husband are on this cruise for their honeymoon. Heard from her around time orig. thread owner posted. She said the ship is full of kids, room is sub par, and their table count preferences were not met. Plus onboard shops have remained closed while stuck in port, so unable to purchase some forgotten items. Due to the technical problems the ship is skipping the first stop-which means they lose out on their booked all-day tour and will be at sea for 2 straight days if the ship leaves today as rescheduled. Hopefully for all, things will only go better.

And since it is in the middle of summertime I would think there would be kids on board. As for the room being "sub par".....what is wrong with it? Looks like whatever the issues were, they are fixed.....hope the ship sails soon and your sis and bil end up with a great cruise. C 2 C Posted July 5, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Plus onboard shops have remained closed while stuck in port, so unable to purchase some forgotten items. Shops are never (should never say never) open while a ship is still in port, usually the same for casinos (with a few exceptions). I believe it has something to do with local laws of every country. Lois- (delayed honeymoon, second marriage for both) they are there to enjoy the cruise and ports not spend the time in their room the whole trip :p Not sure details about room. Our texting was brief during spotty wifi while she was off-ship for a little bit (guess they allowed passengers to disembark while stuck at original port). GT Hooked on Cruisin Posted July 5, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Do you think the OBC they provided on this cruise was enough to compensate you for missing one day of your cruise?
vulcan1971 Posted July 5, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Adding a sea day to an itinerary because a ship cannot come into a port probably happens more often than one might imagine (due to a variety of issues that can crop up on short notice). I know it must be terribly disappointing to miss out on a port, especially if you have/had private excursions planned. However, the OBC being offered, no matter the amount, is more than I expected would be offered. Assuming that the ship is running without fail on all other fronts, I do hope that this time in port and the remainder of the cruise is fun and enjoyable. The Reflection is an amazing ship with lots to see and do. Go take this time to enjoy every inch of it. :) Sent from my Samsung Note 2 on the T-Mobile 4G LTE Network
cherylroslyn Posted July 5, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Do you think the OBC they provided on this cruise was enough to compensate you for missing one day of your cruise? Would you prefer to go out into the open sea with a mechanical problem? And you don't miss one day of your cruise, they are on the ship and using all of the services. they are not sitting in the terminal waiting to board. This happens on every cruiseline multiple times per year. Its always a risk that you will miss a port. That is life. To the sister of the honeymoon couple, I hope you instructed them to go to the maitre'd and ask for a relocation for dinner. I am sure they will do everything they can to accomodate a honeymoon couple

WestLakeGirl Posted July 5, 2014 #17 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Are the dining rooms and the pools open? Are the bars? Did their steward clean their room and make their beds? Did the bands play? Did the shows go on? They didn't miss a day of their cruise, then. Rather they missed a port. Big difference, and an OBC is a nice gesture to recognize that, (they should get their port charges refunded for that day, too)

Cruising89143 Posted July 5, 2014 #19 Share Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) Sorry that your cruise started off on a negative note but it looks like X has resolved the issue and they gave a OBC to help with the disappointment. Ship happens and hopefully most will have made the best of it. As far as the comment about kids being on board. That is to be expected this time of year. We had kids on out 6/01 EQ 13 night Med cruise but they were very well behaved. Hope rest of the cruise goes as planned. :) Edited July 5, 2014 by cruisingator2

johnb0529 Posted July 5, 2014 #21 Share Posted July 5, 2014 We have set sail...and all seems well! Yes there are lots of kids, but that's to be expected mid-summer! They did give a ship board credit for the missed port. I would have hoped for 10% of cruise price, but happy with what they did! Shops were closed , that I noticed but bars, pools and restaurants are open and they adjusted some restaurants to be open for lunch the same as a sea-day. So far very happy with staff and ship, just disappointed we missed the first port!

We had kids on out 6/01 EQ 13 night Med cruise but they were very well behaved. :) Only way you can guarantee no kids on board, is to sail Adults only and Celebrity don't have any A O ships. That's the advantage of P&O.:p A TA usually have very few.
