jenn- Posted July 19, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Thanks for the link. I found it very fun. I already have my eye on some dresses that scream 1990's that need trimming down to fit my skinnier self.
RedHeadTexan Posted July 20, 2014 #27 Share Posted July 20, 2014 Hi ladies' date=' Just wanted to share something that is kind of neat. I can't sew a bit, but this lady does some really amazing things. Hope this link works. Everyone have a wonderful evening. http://refashionista.net/[/quote'] Thanks for posting the link. I have been reading her blog and yesterday I decided to hit the thrift stores. I am a decent sewer, so I thought why not give this a shot. I found this dress which is a Royal Hawaiin (made in Hawaii) that had the original price tags still on it. Walt and I think it is from the late 60's or early 70's based on the tag and style. The original price was $19.99 and I bought it for $8. I ended up removing the sleeves and taking it in. I decided that I liked the length when it was belted, so I left that alone. The trickiest thing for me was deciding on what to do for the neckline. I think for my first refashion it came out pretty good. Lisa

logan25 Posted July 20, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 20, 2014 Thanks for the link. I have been paging through about two years of her projects. I have previously limited myself to altering thrift finds just a little to make them fit better. I was inspired to visit my favorite thrift store today with a fresh eye to spotting items I would have previously overlooked. I spotted a maxi dress which was actually layered top and skirt of the same fabric. I employed the "refashionista" trick of cutting off the skirt portion, being left with a nicely fitting breezy top with inner lining to throw over shorts. cruzisme Posted July 21, 2014 #35 Share Posted July 21, 2014 You did a great job on that dress! Jillian has inspired you and I am sure, lots more. She has shown what you can do by removing sleeves and shortening the outfit ( plus taking in excess fabric).
