ehschief Posted August 15, 2014 #26 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Red Wing was a small port, no a lot to do, but if you have a car there is a lot around there. I would love to see your Aunt and Uncle's pictures, maybe We even met them.

Vagabond.rt Posted August 15, 2014 #28 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Good to know.. Thanks. We're on the St Paul to St Louis trip starting Aug 23rd and hoping that they don't have any trouble putting the paddlewheel back on. Also hoping that they can make it St Paul and we don't have to be bused for the first leg of our journey. Any word on whether the American Queen can make it to St Paul on this trip? Harley Rdr Posted August 15, 2014 #31 Share Posted August 15, 2014 I saw somewhere that each cabin has a Keurig coffee maker. Can anyone confirm this?
LDVinNC Posted August 15, 2014 #32 Share Posted August 15, 2014 The regular cabins (Category A and lower) on the American Queen do NOT have coffee makers of any kind. I don't know about the suites. You can ask your cabin attendant to deliver coffee or tea in the morning, but on our last trip she only managed to bring it once. That's why we like to be close to the Front Porch. I recommend travel mugs for ease of transport back to the cabin.

Harley Rdr Posted August 15, 2014 #34 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Another question, please. Is Wi Fi available onboard and is it free? Mom wants to go to Iceland next. While on the boat might be a good time for the two of us to look at all the Iceland cruises available and pick one.
ehschief Posted August 15, 2014 #35 Share Posted August 15, 2014 There is Wi Fi but sporadic, kind of hit and miss.
hrprof Posted August 15, 2014 #36 Share Posted August 15, 2014 We just returned from Iceland on National Geographic Explorer. It is operated by Lindblad Expeditions - an outstanding expedition cruise operator. You can check them out on expeditions.com.
Calliope Posted August 15, 2014 #37 Share Posted August 15, 2014 I saw somewhere that each cabin has a Keurig coffee maker. Can anyone confirm this? Steamboats reported that the QUEEN OF THE MISSISSIPPI has the Keurig Coffee Makers in the staterooms and not the AMERICAN QUEEN.
Harley Rdr Posted August 15, 2014 #38 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Calliope - Thanks. I must have missed the name of the boat on the post. hrprof - I'll take a look at Lindblad Expeditions. How physical was the trip? Mom will be 90 years old in December so we need to pick things she will be able to do. She also wants to do an Australian cruise (doesn't have the stamina for the flights to get there) and a Galapagos cruise. She needs a traveling companion so I get the "terrible" job of going with her.
hrprof Posted August 15, 2014 #39 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Harley I'm afraid that expedition cruising maybe challenging for a 90 year old. We did the Galapagos on Lindblad and most of the ships there were expedition ships - every day is spent leaving the ships to walk about the islands - Zodiacs are normally used and are a little bit tough to get in and out of. The river cruise sounds perfect - we are doing the AQ Memphis-New Orleans in November - just made final payment!
Sebastopolwino Posted August 23, 2014 #40 Share Posted August 23, 2014 BTW, I just saw a photo on FB of the totally assembled paddlewheel which is waiting to be put back on the boat today. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone know if the paddlewheel is repaired and back on the boat. Also, we are on the 9/6 cruise from Cincinnati to St. Louis and was wondering if there is any problem with the boat getting up the Mississippi to St. Louis. As Steamboat stated the wheel is back on the boat, and has been in use or the past week. Today the AQ is sitting at the foot of Jackson St. in downtown St. Paul with her brightly painted wheel. For photos of the newly rebuilt wheel in use check out Steamboats' website: http://www.Steamboats.org Edited August 23, 2014 by Calliope
ttalbcr Posted August 25, 2014 #43 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Just returned from a trip on the Queen up the Mississippi, St Louis to St. Paul. It was great! Paddle wheel worked fine. It was our first time on the American Queen, will definitely not be our last!
