Question about pre-booking entertainment venue on Getaway

 Share

Recommended Posts

I was looking at pre-booking the Illusionarium for my upcoming cruise in September on the Getaway. I thought the charge would be added to your shipboard account. I realized when I was looking at it this morning that you had to pay for it ahead of time. Would we (party of 2) be safe to wait and book it when we are onboard the ship?

Another question...we are booked in at GTY inside room. When are those rooms typically assigned? It has only been a couple of weeks since we booked and we are not sailing until September 20.

Thanks for you help!

If you definitely know when you want see the show and have a particular night to go, then book now. But if you aren't sure if you want to see it, then wait until you board. They will not release all tickets through pre-booking. You may not have the choice that you want for show dates and times if you wait. I have found on any of the ships that the later performances are less booked.

As for guaranty cabins, just do a search on this website, the practice is not ship specific. But you usually will get your assignment before you sail.

I did a last minute booking for the Getaway (2 weeks before the July 19th/14 sailing) & I had no problems booking for the Illusionarium online even with such a short window before the sailing date. The only date that was full was the 1st night & I would suspect it is because of the 20% discount offered for the 1st night.

I pre-booked, because there were many other "happenings" that were in the same timeslots so I wanted to be sure to get a specific day.

The other thing to consider is port vs sea days & whether you have tours booked, etc...

I had a GTY inside cabin & was surprisingly upgraded to a outside cabin. You'll love the Getaway - Happy cruising!

Thanks TDOTCRUISR. Wow...that is awesome that you got an outside room. I would give anything if that would happen with us. Guess you just never know. What is important is being on the trip and having fun! Really looking forward to being on the Getaway. It really looks like a beautiful ship!

To the OP: I agree, I thought it very weird that you had to pay upfront from the website. I booked the Nick pajama breakfast thing for my kids and had to pay right away. I assumed it would be added to shipboard account. I wonder why they do that? Does anyone know if that is how the pay restaurants work too?

Yes you will need to pre-pay for the restaurants if you book online.

My husband, myself, daughter and 2 grandsons will be on the 8/23 sailing on the Getaway. I pre-booked everything we wanted to see on line. Yes, had to pay for the Illusionarium but all the other shows I booked were at no charge and I'm glad it's one less thing to do once on board. We sailed the Epic twice and did not pre-book anything. When we embarked went straight to the box office and did it all right there. No problem with getting dates, times, etc. I would suggest if not booking on line go straight to the box office when you board and do it then, don't wait too long and I'm sure you will be able to get your preferences. Have a wonderful cruise

Hi Lil Pups. My mother, myself, and my 14 year old son will also be cruising in the 8/23 Getaway cruise. How old are your grandsons? Have they cruised before. We are very excited and have been trying to familiarize ourselves with the ship prior to leaving. My son is a little nervous about meeting others his age. Typical teen boy stuff. Looking forward to some father son activities as well. Hopefully our paths will cross once on board.

Hi Kismet Grandsons are a little younger 11 and 12. We will be trying to sign them up for camp. If they go or not is another story. This is their 4th cruise. The other 3 on Carnival. They absolutely love cruising. We take them on a cruise every August and I try to select a ship for their enjoyment. Hence the Getaway. Hope to see you on board.
