swetra Posted September 11, 2014 Author #226 Share Posted September 11, 2014 My PVP said that I can't use the egift cards as down payment - that a credit card is required to secure the reservation. Has this been the case for you all? Not for me. I used only e-gift cards to make my booking and then also to pay it off. The only issue I came across is I had to call Carnival to make my deposit payment since I had to use multiple e-gift cards and the website would only let me enter 1 card. I called Carnival and the rep took my six $100 e-gift card numbers over the phone and applied the whole $600 for the booking deposit. Never had to give my credit card to Carnival for the booking. Swampbaby Posted September 11, 2014 #228 Share Posted September 11, 2014 I ordered a gift card from this program and was surprised it had my son's name on the gift card. My eCertificate through Verizon does NOT have any name on it. The email is of course addressed to me but the certificate itself, while having a place I could add a message, only shows the eCertificate number and a pin number. All I did was type in the eCertificate number and it credited to my cruise. I plan on several more that I could use as deposit if I book while on a cruise as there is no expiration date. DKF97 Posted September 11, 2014 #231 Share Posted September 11, 2014 They are applied to your account, not to a card specifically. So all charges to the account are covered.

Just sign up then shop for gift cards with the points you accumulate. You should get a bonus amount of points when you sign up. Must be a verizon customer though. rcrx Posted September 11, 2014 #234 Share Posted September 11, 2014 Question?? If I buy the GIFT CARDS I can buy cruise cash before the cruise?? I just paid for my cruise using the E-Certs. Its my understanding the "E-CERTS" have to hand carried and applied on board. I was hoping to not have to spend anytime at the pursers desk if possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
WAHMto5 Posted September 11, 2014 #235 Share Posted September 11, 2014 When I do my on-line check-in, I just mark the "Cash Account" and don't put any of my credit cards on file. As soon as we get on board we go to GS and apply the gift cards to our account. We normally put $100.00 at a time and just watch the account on the TV or the kiosk. Nice with that 10% discount now;)

Thanks Yes, you have to visit Guest Services to have them applied to your account as on board credit. Keep in mind only eGift cards can be used for onboard credit, Carnival Dollars cannot! If I apply 700$ in E Certs and I only use 600$ worth...WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LEFT OVER?? From what I have read, you forfeit the moolah.......so I would only give them $500 worth to start and then apply the others as or if needed! If you Google "Carnival eGift Cards" their website has all the details......
bambilin Posted September 12, 2014 #243 Share Posted September 12, 2014 I bought 10 $100 e cards for my 08/24 cruise on the Dream for $900, $100 saved. Brought them to guest services (having FTTF sure helped there) and had them applied to my account. Already had a $75 OBC, SO HAD $1075 credit to start out. Had our Cheers for 2 at $603 and our tips for 4 at $336 so still had $136 credit to play with. Worked out great. Will be investing in some soon to deposit my 2015 cruise. mishka422 Posted September 12, 2014 #244 Share Posted September 12, 2014 If you find near the end of your cruise that you still have money left in your account, go to the casino, load the amount you have left into the machine (after you have set up your sail and sign for the casino), play one pull on the slot, push the cash out button and go to the casino cage and cash out. We used a gift certificate on our July cruise and I ask guest services this question and they said we'd get a check back after we got home. But what we did, was just go to one of the kiosks and withdrew the cash. Much easier than going the casino route if you don't already frequent the casino. n6uqqq Posted September 13, 2014 #248 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Thanks for the hot tip OP. Bought 29 hundred dollar e gift cards.
