Rare kazu Posted August 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2014 How many of us have gotten caught into the trap of getting carried away in a discussion? As much as I try not to, I know I have. It's so easy to forget this is an internet board. Sometimes the written word does not translate the same as if you were talking to the CC member in person and see their body language, facial expression, crinkle at their mouth and eyes. Let's turn the negativity around and laugh at some of the things we have done, seen and vow to keep the board friendly :) I'm still laughing at myself over the captain on the Prinsendam thread. :p What about you? innlady1 Posted August 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) I'm laughing at myself for not remembering what the Prinsendam captain reference was! Suffering from CRS, it seems. :D ;) :D Edited August 6, 2014 by innlady1

propwash Posted August 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2014 What I hear you saying is sometimes what's written on the Internet may not be the truth :D. Some people post on hearsay not necessarily the truth. I personally can't wait to have fun on my next cruise.
Rare 1of4 Posted August 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Well isn't this thread a breath of fresh air. Thanks Kazu for thinking it up and being willing to take the plunge and admitting to getting caught up. I must admit I have a few "hot button" issues, mostly about my children and their health, but I admit to getting my knickers in a knot when Canadian rules and regulations are dismissed as arbitrary. I came face to face with this with international guests in our home a few weeks ago. I can't imagine going to another country and mocking their laws and I don't handle it very well when it happens. But back on topic, the CC thread on the HAL board that unexpectedly got me riled was the one on chocolate diamonds. I am probably the only one that remembers it but it was an innocent question by the OP that garnered opinions on her choice of jewelry, not answering the question. I admit to being really touchy on the subject for very personal reasons.

Your first sentence is not what I was trying to say at all. ;) there can always be misinformation but that is usually corrected at least three times here :p It's how the message is conveyed, perceived and/or responded to that I was referring to. Have a LOT of fun on your next cruise. :D Edited August 6, 2014 by kazu
Oceanwench Posted August 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Fun thread, Kazu! Seems we've been too serious lately. :( 1 of 4 - your comment on the chocolate diamonds touched a nerve with me -- how innocent questions end up stirring all kinds of negativity. Goes like this: OP: My TA told me HAL is going to place freshly baked apple pies in all the staterooms on embarkation day. Has anyone else heard about this? Poster #2: What kind of apples? #3: I am allergic to apples. I don't want the pie in my room. #4: Are they going to give us plates and a pie slicer? #5: We'll need forks too. #6: Oh, I am so tired of hearing about allergies. Get a life. #7: I am diabetic and I can't eat pie. I might see if I can get OBC instead. #8: I wish it were chocolate pie. #9: Who is your TA? My TA didn't say anything about pie. #10: Allergies are serious. I have an allergy to peanuts. #11: Good thing it's not peanut butter pie then. #12: I suppose this means prices are going to go up. #13: Do suite guests get a better kind of pie? #14: What kind of apple pie - Dutch apple pie? This is too vague. #15: Can't wait to enjoy it on the balcony while I smoke. #16: If you're smoking on the balcony, I'll have to eat my pie in my room. #!7: Not another smoking thread. #18: The smell of apple pie bothers me. #19: The OP has only 125 posts. Methinks it is a troll. #20: I just talked to HAL customer service and was told it's a cherry pie. :D:D:D:D:D

Remember the party game where the first person is handed a statement written on a piece of paper and then whispers it to person number two. It is then whispered down the line through numerous people until the last person repeats the statement out loud. The results are hilarious and bear no resemblance to the original statement. That's very often the path followed by CC posts. Sometimes funny and sometimes very sad.

Rare Hlitner Posted August 6, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Agree with the OP :). Some folks also need to understand that you can disagree with a post without attacking the poster. Too many times we see good threads go quickly downhill because it get personal. We could all improve our lives if we learned to take a deep breath, chuckle quietly, and move on. regnig Posted August 7, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 7, 2014 Hey we can settle the "Apple Pie" dilemma we'll just have a poll or survey! Surely the results here on CC will reflect the opinions of all HAL cruisers. ;) Anyway, I'd rather have Pecan Pie over Apple any day while I'm sure Ruth would like Chocolate Cream. :D
