DDBINK1 Posted August 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2014 On my QV trip to Hawai'i, I tipped in US $'s but I also asked my butler who was from Germany if she wanted a different currency. She said US $ are ok because they can use them on the ship and can always deposit them into their personal accounts and then bank transfer the funds to their home countries. And I think they keep the money given as a tip since I suspect the auto tipping gets utilized as their base pay by the company. I may be wrong in that conspiracy theory. Hope that helps. Rare Scrapnana Posted August 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2014 I asked the Social Hostess on QE and she said US$ were far and away the most preferred. She said dollars were the easiest to send home. Not real sure why that is true but that was her answer.
Jimsgirl Posted August 10, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Having lived in the "third world" I think the answer is "black market" . You can get better exchange rates for dollars in the local market place than at a bank. It is illegal but it is done.
