Thomson shop questions ..I really should'nt

Recommended Posts

Needed a few a few Euros for next week so only wanting a small amount, off I

went into our local Thomson shop for them . After serving me the guy asked

"could he be of any help with anything else ?"

Must have had the devil in me ..so just for amusement I asked a few questions.

If I lift a price off the internet for example Fred Olsen or maybe go to book a

cruise on the Crown Princess, would I have to pay you £25 for doing so ?

" No sir they would pay us a fee and Thomson do not pay their own shops ,so

we are booking it for you for nothing really if you book Thomson ."

I see said i but as more people begin to book online they will book them without

you thus saving money and your losing revenue .

He took a deep breath and said .. "I can assure you that will not happen , I for one have

34 years expertise in this industry and thats what they pay for. People are not bothered by it

our figures show compared to last year at this time we have booked over 200 more holidays

so what does that tell you ? "

My reply ... " Ok it tells me that people are coming to you maybe because they are not confident to book it themselves .

The economy has picked up according to the TV etc and so more people are booking holidays again or maybe a special holiday .

Tell me with all that expertise , how many Thomson ships have you been on ? ...

.. ( he gave me that no I havent look before muttering the very same words )....

..by the way I have used them and Fred Olsen and Princess cruises who by the way I think

you should have a go at, as you could get a possible Travel Agents discount and I know you would most

likely get a senior discount as you are now over 50 year old ,with Princess ."

Now if looks could have killed ,I got from him as he took great pleasure in telling me ..

" Sorry but I am no where near fifty yet ,a few years to go yet .

"Well in that case young man ,sorry my mistake but going on what you said ,I thought

16 years old leaving school and 34 years in the trade would have made you 50 ish and

that's without any Travel/ABTA training . Or maybe you left school fully trained for

working in this shop ? Tell you what lets just leave it at that ."

Which with his blushing red face ,he seemed happy to do so .

Just thought I would share part of a day in the life of Kalos with you .:)

Do they just make it up as they go along ??:confused:;)

Ooohhh !!! You are awful.....but I like you !!!!

That wasn't me that's Dick Emery ;)

Naughty Kalos, . but I have also have asked a question of which I knew the answer, just to see what they said. Got them tied up in knots about the £25 charge too.

It's good to know I'm not alone ..I would have nipped over and gave you a hand whilst at the Air show the other week .;)

kalos .... I wondered where you were......now I know ..........winding up Thomson employees :D

BTW what was the exchange rate?

I've been trying to get my cruise luggage allowance down by removing not needed things ...like my gall bladder  but I'm fine now :D.

The rate was 1.171187 %

0r in simple terms it cost me £102.46 for €120 :)

No sir they would pay us a fee and Thomson do not pay their own shops ,so we are booking it for you for nothing really if you book Thomson .

So, the local "shop" where we booked our two (recent-ish) previous Thomsons cruises at online/discounted prices made no commission from these deals ?

Methinks this guy was spinning a yarn !!!
