Cshgrand Posted August 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Having visited Bruges before we are thinking about a day out in Blankenberge for our October cruise. The fact we can have a short day out with easy transport appeals. The promenade looks like it would be a nice walk and the beach good for a run around. Thinking of visiting the sea life centre and perhaps the Belgium Pier, although I'm a little worried that the pier will be closed late October. Their website isn't great. Has anyone visited these or can recommend other attractions in the area please?
gosport11 Posted August 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2014 As long as the weather is fine a walk along the prom is very pleasent,it goes on for miles, the pier has a cafe at the end we went in febuary and it was open, there are also a lot of shops below the prom, you have to walk up steps to get onto the prom,at one end there is also a marina and nearby some crazy golf courses, Blackenberg is known as Belgiums Blackpool,if its raining go to Brugges We have enjoyed our vists even seen snow on the beach
Cshgrand Posted August 10, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Thank you for your reply. We'll be fine unless it's tipping down in which case we'll probably stay on the ship. We live on the English coast directly opposite Blankenberge in Kent so all to familiar with the possible weather!!
Scriv Posted August 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) We spent a lovely day in Blankenberge at the end of June. It's a very well kept little resort. I wouldn't have compared it with Blackpool, lol. Rather more sedate than that and quite understated. It has some nice little shops and cafes/bars and a marina - and an ATM for Euros. We had a long walk all along the promenade by the very clean beach and had coffees and beer sitting outside the cafe/bar on the pier. From the pier we could see Oriana sitting over in the dock. We had a light late lunch at a cafe by the marina and would have bought one of the delicious looking vanilla slices in a cake shop if we weren't so well fed on board! It was a really relaxing day out and most enjoyable - and so hassle free taking the ship's free shuttle into town. Mind you, it was a dry day - not sure I would want to try it if its tipping down! Now, here's a challenge for you if you do get there - count how many prams/buggies you see carrying small dogs. I'm being serious!!!! We noted six.
