akowilm Posted August 26, 2014 #76 Share Posted August 26, 2014 OP here. We went and had a fantastic time! Got in our perfect beach day on Wednesday and were back in the cabin just prior to the brief downpour that day. Many correctly predicted that there is so much to do on the ship itself that the kids would have hardly been phased if rain forced them to spend more time indoors with their new friends. Thanks to all who took such a keen interest in our family's vacation plans! Great weather for almost the entire time. Everyone wanted to stay longer. Enjoyed ourselves so much we booked another suite for an 11 night med cruise next summer. Was a little surprised to see this thread still going...many opinions, clearly. May everyone enjoy their future sailings! So glad you had a great time! I always believe a little rain can't hurt anything! Fun people have fun times! CruisingChick Posted August 26, 2014 #77 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Last week was one thing... didn't the Summit divert to Florida instead of heading to Bermuda for this weeks's sailing (Aug 24th) ? Maybe not a great move looking at these wind and wave charts for this morning. Yes, the Summit is headed to Port Canaveral and then Nassau. That's what happens when you cruise during Hurricane Season.

They may have been better off heading to Bermuda... certainly calmer waters that route through to now.

Ya The Summit may have avoided a direct confrontation with Hurricane Cristobal in Beemuda... But forecasts say they could be in for a rough ride down the coast and back. Not fun http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/southeast-us-on-alert-for-futu/32676013 Cheers!

frankdp Posted August 26, 2014 #81 Share Posted August 26, 2014 I once came within 57 miles of the eye of a hurricane on a very small ship (390 ft long). I truly though we would all die that night.

Maybe not a great move looking at these wind and wave charts for this morning. We made it safely to FL. Some seas were a bit rough, but it wasn't as bad as other sailings we've been on. Our minimum distance to the storm was 325 nm (so said by the Captain). I'd rather be here than in Bermuda when the storm hits and there are lots of rainy days. No matter what, it is better than being home working. Happy sailing, Jenna Edited August 27, 2014 by need2bespoiled

While it's moving north it's taking it's time passing between new York and Bermuda... Florida IS the best place to be for this week! Have fun! Edited August 27, 2014 by A Sixth?
