cruise1814 Posted August 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2014 I know I will get the oh I'm glad your not going to be on my cruise or one less complainer to hear onboard from the cheer leaders. I got to say Bionic bar just seems ridicules. Next thing you know they will have robotic cabin stewards!. I wonder if the 15% gratuity is still charged at the bionic bar when a crew member is not even making the drinks!. I am Loyal to Royal Diamond member and will still cruise Royal until the day I die. But the Quantum class will not be on my ships sailed list. First they get rid of the Promenade deck, Then the crown lounge, royal promenade, Main dinning room!!. Then add dynamic dinning and all the theme park like attractions like Sky diving, bumper cars etc. Which are very cool and innovative but have no place on a cruise ship!. Also leaves very little room for deck space. Seems they are trying to attract the people who have bad mouthed cruises by making them feel like they are on a land vacation!. Also I read in the release guests will be able to plan out there vacation before they even get onboard!. Who want to plan out what they will do this day or eat when and where on that day etc!?. I cant believe what direction the cruising industry has gone. Part of the cruising experience use to be being able to view hear be reminded your on the Ocean!. At least on the Oasis class they gave us the sun deck above the bridge, The seating area by the stern on the Promenade deck, Central park to compensate the no windows in the casino, lounges, etc. I hope the crew on Quantum are not even more over worked then on other Royal ships. I know they mentioned the tablets that all crew are going to get and how the stewards/crew will be able to see the guests every need etc. I hope it helps the crew but I have a feeling it is just good PR and the crew will be more stretched thin then on any other ship in the fleet. Flame away!

Aggravation Posted August 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Sounds like many of the Diamond cruisers should be thrilled, RCL already has the ships they love, and now they're adding something new to attract the next generation of cruisers looking for something different. Should free up some early slots in the MDR, a win for everyone. Our kids are digital, our grand kids even more so - and if cruising is to have a future, it will take more than a crown lounge and promenade deck to make it happen. RCCL has been digitally inept over the years and today's announcements make it clear that they aren't going to keep putting band-aids on a limping backbone, they're reinventing themselves. Great news - even for analog Diamonds! No coincidence that Quantum is shaking down in the states before home porting in Asia, the modern Chinese expect, and will accept, only the latest. A brilliant marketing move. Cruising should be a bit of an adventure - most people cruise to escape routine, not perpetuate it. The Millenials are the future and companies that recognize that fact, and adapt, are the companies that will not just survive, they'll grow. RCCL is all over this one. Cruising Quantum in February - even more amped after today's reveal. Final thought - exactly what is a "promenade" and who ever thought of putting a promenade deck on a ship, where they clearly don't belong? Dumbest idea since abandoning sails.
