petermack Posted September 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2014 We are booked on Quantum on the TA on Nov 02nd. Can anyone with experience of TA sailings tell me if children are allowed in the solarium on these sailings. We are bringing our 3 year old with us but don't know whether to bring his swimming gear with us.
Life is Good Cruising Posted September 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) We are booked on Quantum on the TA on Nov 02nd. Can anyone with experience of TA sailings tell me if children are allowed in the solarium on these sailings. We are bringing our 3 year old with us but don't know whether to bring his swimming gear with us. From Royal's website, the Solarium is for adults and indicate age 16 and older. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=334&faqSubjectName=Life+Onboard&faqId=5814 http://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/en_US/pdf/Guest_Conduct_Policy.pdf Edited September 20, 2014 by Life is Good Cruising
marci22 Posted September 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) It's usually for 16 and up, but I would be very surprised if they did not have some specified open hours for children (not in diapers) as the (regular) pools will be too cold. NC Gal Posted September 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2014 They have the right to set Family Times in the Solarium in case of bad weather or it being too cold. With the Highs in England being in the 40s, I would bet that they open the Solarium for kids each day.
hitaway4 Posted September 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Quantum is equipped with an indoor family friendly pool that has a retractable roof. You will be able to swim there in cold/inclement weather.
Elizanessie Posted September 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2014 There is an indoor pool on Quantum so there should be no need for anyone under 16 to be in the Solarium if the weather isn't good for outside pools.
Baded Posted September 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2014 I wouldn't count on it, you never know. They do have the other pools, the "Q" was made for cold weather.
EbayCruiser Posted September 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Nothing against children, but I hope not. The solarium is the one of the places we love to lounge in and get away from the noise and children. They should have the roof closed and the main pool indoors would be the place to be with children. Lloyd555 Posted September 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2014 The whole family can bring their swim suits. A mentioned, there is the indoor pool. I know some people forget it's there or have confused it with the Solarium.

Can anyone with experience of TA sailings tell me if children are allowed in the solarium on these sailings. We are bringing our 3 year old with us but don't know whether to bring his swimming gear with us. The Solarium is an ADULTS-ONLY space. This is very specifically and purposely separated from the spaces where the shrieking kids are. (Why is it that kids seem to be incapable of talking in a normal quiet voice around water!!??) As such, it will NOT be open to kids, regardless of hours or weather!! (In the conversion to Carnival Sunshine, Carnival insanely put their "Serenity" (!!!) adult pool area right next to (and within easy earshot of) the pool with the screaming kids.... WHAT ON EARTH were they thinking!!?) There is the separate "indoor pool" area (someone already posted the picture above) so that's where the kids can go on chilly days. (And in any case, on this November transatlantic I don't really expect to see a lot of kids anyhow).

The noise is louder because it is an enclosed, humid space. The water in the air helps sound to travel.

DEIx15x8 Posted September 21, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Traditionally on ships where the Adult Solarium was enclosed it would be open to all guests regardless of age during poor weather days. This will not be the case on Quantum since as mentioned there is also an enclosed main pool that is already designated for everyone's use. The Adult Solarium on Quantum is also more like the one on Oasis, it features a series of tiered sitting pools that flow into one another (similar to the cantilevered whirlpools but stacked). There is no true pool that you can swim in.
Rare ladylemondrop Posted September 22, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 22, 2014 Are the pools generally heated fresh water on royal? In all pools? Having an indoor pool will be great!

Rare Peewee14 Posted September 22, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 22, 2014 From my experience they are unheated saltwater Yep, apart from the hot tubs, and my 3 year old takes great delight in dragging me into the hot tub, and then into the pool, then hot tub, then pool and so on.... its like torture
DEIx15x8 Posted September 22, 2014 #19 Share Posted September 22, 2014 Are the pools generally heated fresh water on royal? In all pools? Having an indoor pool will be great! Depends on the ship. The FlowRider requires freshwater so the pools on the Freedom Class and newer are fresh water. I can't say for the Navigator since she had the FlowRider added later. I also know the Independence has heated pools, but do not know for sure if it's all of the Freedom class and newer or just her since she was meant to be the UKs ship since she was under construction. I would expect freshwater and heated on Quantum.
petermack Posted September 25, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted September 25, 2014 We were told that one of the differences between Independence and Liberty is that Independence has heated pools but Liberty does not.
