138east Posted October 19, 2014 #27 Share Posted October 19, 2014 There for 1 night only prior to cruise. Unfortunate,y no time to go in to city. What would be a good hotel to stay in order to go somewhere close by for a yummy dinner...that isn't hotel food? "Yummy dinner" is not something I think of for Newark Airport. The airport hotels tend to be in relatively isolated pockets with no nearby restaurant choices. The only exception are the hotels on Glimcher Realty Way - Courtyard, Country Inns, Residence Inn, and Embassy Suites - where you can partake of a "yummy dinner" at Ruby Tuesdays, IHOP, Appleby's, or the food court at Jersey Gardens Mall. Thanks for the info. I had looked at those hotels. Lol....I should have defined "yummy better! ...I meant "local yummy". I try not to do national chains when traveling. Thanks for the info though! 138east Posted October 19, 2014 #29 Share Posted October 19, 2014 To get local yummy you would have to take a cab into the Ironbound District of Newark for Spanish or Portuguese food - http://www.goironbound.com/ibidsite/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=36&Itemid=34 The closest hotels to do this are on the north side of the airport - Ramada, Doubletree, Courtyard Newark, Fairfield Inn, and Springhill Suites. I think a cab would be in the $20 range each way. These hotels are in Newark, so Newark cab rates should apply. The Glimcher Realty Way hotels are in Elizabeth, so I'm not sure what cab rules apply going between the two cities.
