deborahjo Posted October 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Was on the Liberty in September. I attempted 2 times to book our next cruise. The first time I was standing in line waiting and the guy behind the counter yelled "if you don't have your sign and sail card don't waste my time." I thought how rude but I got out of line because I just wanted information and did not have my sign and sail card with me. A couple days later I attempted again to book our next cruise. I had a list of ships and dates we wanted. When I got to the front of the line he shoved a credit card application at me and he said I had to fill this out. I told him I just wanted to see about booking my next cruise. He told me to go on line and book he did not have time to deal with me if I was not doing a credit application. I walked away furious. This is not what I was expecting. I have reported this gentleman to Carnival but do not expect anything to be done. Of course the more credit cards he gets thru the more money Carnival will make. Plus it is less Carnival has to give away. I wanted the friends and family certificates for my sister so we could sail together next year but this guy screwed that up. I got so mad that I went home and booked my Alaska Cruise thru Princess. Edited October 12, 2014 by deborahjo
andy.capitan Posted October 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I would have reported him on the ship to Guest Services. They should have put him off at the next port.
Budget Queen Posted October 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2014 wow, terrible. Carnival has caused high stress for these employees, however with the book on board the only option for getting the extra credit. I am just off the Miracle with a change in the cruise consultant, and both were swamped with lines but always patient and efficient. The problems I saw was people who expected them to be travel agents. In my opinion, they are booking agents only. The irritated people in the long lines did have some valid complaints with the cruisers who didn't do their homework and no where near booking anything. I hear Carnival does read comments so hopefully this person can be dealt with for better customer service.
Herbaltees Posted October 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I would have reported him on the ship to Guest Services. They should have put him off at the next port. I don't expect him to be working for carnival much longer. Rude is not something I've experienced with Carnival, EVER. Incompetent, yes. Slow, yes. Misinformed, yes. Rude, no way. andy.capitan Posted October 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2014 On our last cruise, which happened to be Carnival Miracle, the lines could be long. And move slow because people were taking so long - looking at deck plan after deck plan and asking all kinds of questions. I refuse to waste so much of my cruise like that so would just walk by occasionally. Finally one time there was only one person at the desk and nobody waiting so that was my time. Talked a little bit with the person while he was filling out my paperwork and he said it was surprising how many people get in line because it was a line not having a clue what it was for. He also agreed that if it were him, he would not stand in a long line or one that wasn't moving, but that some people actually like to. Different strokes, I guess. 9876 Posted October 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I just wish they would go back to offering open bookings. It would be so much faster for the on board agents to deal with and better for the guests too.
snc_cam Posted October 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2014 On the Splendor recently, the hours for the FCD just weren't working for us. And we told that to the Carnival rep. What he did was give us a time "off hours" to meet with him. We also had one of the couples we met here (on a roll call) setup an "off hour" appt to talk with him. I thought that was such an incredible and wonderful thing that he did. And yes, we did book again, same cruise, year later.
pusywillow Posted October 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I got so mad that I went home and booked my Alaska Cruise thru Princess. Sorry you had such a bad experience. The bright spot is you will be sailing on a great line for Alaska. Mine in June was just wonderful.

I don't remember if I needed my card, but I know I needed my cabin number, so probably not. I did need the credit card to book, of course. I was invited to apply for a Carnival credit card, but when I said I wasn't interested, that ended that. I was able to make my booking with no problems and efficiently, though I could have probably done it faster online. It helped that I knew exactly what I wanted to book and did so on the first full day. She warned me that she would be swamped on the last day, so please try to book something before then. I should note that the hours were very limited other than the last day - basically an hour or two in the evening. bury me at sea Posted October 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2014 What an exasperating experience. We found the young man on the Magic to be friendly and knowledgable. He asked if I wanted to apply for a credit card but accepted my declining without question. We knew what we wanted and had it booked quickly. A family member took advantage of one of the vouchers the next week. I noticed rather long lines later in the week and wondered if they should have had longer hours or even 2 people working. Just plain rude is so rare on Carnival. I probably would have mentioned it to Guest Services.
092306 Posted October 12, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2014 We encountered a very unfriendly future cruise specialist on the Miracle, but doubt it was the same one, he couldn't have lasted that long. Last year on the Splendor we had a very nice one. A little short on knowledge, but personable.
joy21 Posted October 12, 2014 #15 Share Posted October 12, 2014 We booked our next cruise when we were on the Miracle. We did our homework before we got on the ship and went to the desk on the first day. We didn't have to wait at all. We found that after they do their talk about future cruises the lines are very long. We plan to book our next one the same way. This time, we were able to give one of the certificates to my parents to use on their cruise and one to my niece who will be on her honeymoon cruise with us. It makes a wonderful wedding gift. golfadj Posted October 12, 2014 #20 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Plan on doing this next week on the Miracle. Have the options narrowed down, just need to decide. Be careful that the price you book at is what is shown on website. They are known for charging a higher price. Tried to do it to me about a year ago and wouldnt look at website to check. golfadj Posted October 12, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Just a touch off subject but what are the advantages of having the Carnival credit card? I've never looked into it. 1% cash back on everything and 2% for Carnival payments. Used it heavily until Sams came along with a much better deal. deborahjo Posted October 12, 2014 Author #23 Share Posted October 12, 2014 When I returned I had my sign and sail card and my credit card. These deposits cannot be put on your ship account. DH and I had 3 cruises we had just a few questions about. No more then 1 or 2. I was ready to book. I just did not like him shoving the credit card application in my face. That is exactly what he did. All I wanted to do was book my cruise. When I told him I was not interested in a CC he got rude and told me to go on the internet. This I consider heavy handed sales. Everyone else on the cruise was great. We never wanted for a thing. Carnival is a great line and we have enjoyed it many years but I think the people on the ships are showing more and more negative attitude toward the guest. I do not know if it is because they are having to handle more and more guest or what but I feel attitude adjustments are needed.
