San Diego Ellie Posted November 7, 2014 #27 Share Posted November 7, 2014 I am hoping that the movie selections you can choose in your stateroom have closed caption, if you want it. I am hearing impaired, and on other Princess ships there is no closed caption on movies in the room. Can you tell me whether you can get it on the movies in your room on Regal? We are cruising on Regal in January, and that would be so great for me. Thank you.
GoVolsTB Posted November 7, 2014 #28 Share Posted November 7, 2014 It was an interesting morning watching Loni Anderson, Joy Dewitt, Dick Van Patten, Dorris Roberts get wheeled of in a wheelchairs, and many others. Florence Henderson look wonderful. Saw Doc on board and said hello. Saw the crew later on all together. They look great, yet older again. looking forward to hearing Charo play tomorrow. It is interesting so far.... Is that a joke??????? Were they really in wheelchairs?

Happy2cruise Posted November 7, 2014 #30 Share Posted November 7, 2014 "......and this was by far the best buffet meal I’ve had on a ship. Large, unlimited delicious grilled split lobster tails, good crab cakes, clams on the half shell and a nice slab of prime rib....." Nice menu in the buffet. Although, I'm betting that it won't be the standard fare for all sailings from here on out. Think I will agree with you. Just off the Royal and no lobster tails in buffet:(
Loonbeam Posted November 7, 2014 #31 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Didn't see any either, tho they did have the clams, crab cakes and prime rib all at one point or another... Think I will agree with you. Just off the Royal and no lobster tails in buffet:(
Rare taxatty Posted November 7, 2014 Author #32 Share Posted November 7, 2014 This was the first time I've seen lobster on the buffet since the old days when they used to have the claws (not tails) the first night. The library on the ship is small, but I got some work done there today--it's a nice peaceful spot. So is the top deck (Sky-18) and the views from there are spectacular. I really like the open but covered seating area added next to the Horizon Bistro/Court--it's a very pleasant place to eat. Charo is performing tonight in the Princess Theatre. I'm wondering whether she'll have to be wheeled out as well. Because of the extra Marina Deck, and some venues that have been moved around or changed from the Princess standard layout, lots of pax, including Elites, are having some initial trouble finding things, but that doesn't seem to last too long. Almost everyone I've spoke to is having a wonderful time. The weather has been absolutely sunny and perfect--if you're thinking of coming to Florida and the Bahamas, this is the best time of year, along with April and May--sunny, warm and not too humid. sashas_mom Posted November 7, 2014 #33 Share Posted November 7, 2014 On the Royal one of my favorites in Alfredo's was the ravioli. Although it's not called that, and I don't remember what it is called. It is incredible and I highly recommend it.

Oceanwench Posted November 7, 2014 #35 Share Posted November 7, 2014 I was on the Regal Princess Tues-Thurs for the naming ceremony. I saw Doris Roberts using a wheelchair when she left the dinner gala the night of the naming ceremony. Dick Van Patten sat next to us in the dining room and was very slow walking, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him use a wheelchair. Joyce DeWitt was bouncy and energetic, stayed in the dining room after dinner mingling with guests. Loni - I only saw her at the naming ceremony, but she seemed a little unsteady. Charo has all the energy of a teenager! She came out dancing and rocking for sound check, and for the naming ceremony she really rocked. I saw her at the head table after dinner, teaching some of the women the exercises she does to keep in shape. She's tiny. She is a very kind, friendly person. I would post pix but tried once and wasn't terribly successful.
Oceanwench Posted November 7, 2014 #36 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Horizon Court and Horizon Bistro were excellent. We ate breakfast and lunch there. Love the hibachi grill and the pastry shop. During the Q & A with the cast of The Love Boat, Jill W said it was the best cruise buffet she has ever seen.
Rare JimmyVWine Posted November 8, 2014 #37 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Joyce DeWitt was bouncy and energetic, stayed in the dining room after dinner mingling with guests. I saw Joyce DeWitt in a regional theater production in September and can confirm that she is as spry as ever.

SF Posted November 8, 2014 #40 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Do you happen to know if they implemented the princessmessenger@sea app onboard, the one where you can text people you are sailing with at no charge using your phone? I got an email last week saying that you can download it from the app store but apparently it wasn't available yet. Other posters mentioned it will be available on Regal. Any info on this would be appreciated
Rare taxatty Posted November 8, 2014 Author #41 Share Posted November 8, 2014 I haven't used the app, but the Regal app for your phone apparently does all sorts of things--people love it. Just came back from Charo’s show in the Princess Theatre. The theatre was full by 9:00 PM for a 9:30 PM show. The new seats are tight but OK. Frankly, she’s so ancient, I wasn’t expecting much. She was AMAZING. She still can sing, dance and play classical guitar wonderfully. No one has more energy. If you can catch her show somewhere, do so. Just leave the kids at home.:D Lots of VIPs are on this Inaugural Cruise and were at the show —the Love Boat cast, Jack Jones, who sang the theme song, and the Big Boss himself, Micky Arison, who I almost bumped into leaving the theatre. Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted November 8, 2014 #43 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Charo certainly was great, but she was also lip syncing and not that well I thought. Most of the love boat cast was upstairs in the Sanctuary with us all day. As are many VIPs. Love the new Sanctuary and can't wait to spend tomorrow and all next week up there. Tomorrow is a round table with them and Gavin is signing books tomorrow. The Princess messanger app is not up and running. The new chocolate drinks are only served in the Wheelhouse bar and are $12 each so not on the drink package. The buffet is very fresh and the best we have ever seen. Dinner at Crown Grill was great last night. Dinner at Alfredo's tonight was just okay. The ship is just beautiful.
Carol28 Posted November 8, 2014 #44 Share Posted November 8, 2014 enjoy! we will be on thanksgiving week how strict were they with carrying on wine? if you have a chance post some by the glass wine prices from vines and report if there are any happy hours (you can tell where my priorities are :) ) I'm on Thanksgiving cruise, too. I like your priorities. Other cruise lines seem to be accounting for wine very carefully during embarkation. Hope to have a drink with you! Rare taxatty Posted November 8, 2014 Author #45 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Charo certainly was great, but she was also lip syncing and not that well I thought. Yep, she was lip-synching. Her voice was clearly multi-tracked in advance and lots of times she didn't even bother to keep the mic up to her mouth. Still a great show. The Lido and Sun Deck chair hogs were out in force this morning—another perfect warm, sunny day and the ocean is like glass. By 10:00 AM, lots of pax looking for places to sit and only finding unoccupied chairs with towels, books and hats baking in the sun. No one in sight to complain to. After a determined trek, I found a nice shady spot way up high overlooking MUTS. As a special new Princess innovation, there are also now couch hogs spreading towels on the lovely semi-circular couches that ring the main pool area and then vanishing—the tradition continues in a new way. Not many people on this ship under 40. This "mini-cruise" clientele is much different than the many 3 day RCI Majesty of the Seas booze cruises and even the short Celebrity one I’ve taken. I don’t think this ship is completely full, notwithstanding the recent sale that cut prices drastically and gave nice OBC (and got me on the ship), but it’s not exactly empty. Like the other Princess ships, there’s not much room to move around in the casino. It was so packed last night you could barely make your way through it. I continue to be wowed by the new Horizon Court/Bistro area. The new interactive TVs don’t seem to have a closed-captioning choice for the movies—if it’s there, I can’t find it. It’s great to be able to pause a movie, leave your stateroom, and then watch the rest of it later. It’s also nice to be able to check your bill at any time without waiting in line at Passenger Services. Internet speed has been a 6 on a 10 scale—better than usual. I like my inside room on Caribe deck (one of the non-sideways ones) as it’s forward quite close to the stairs and elevators and has plenty of room for 1 or 2. I’m not short or a chiseled physical specimen, but there was still plenty of room in the shower without being attacked by the curtain. I always get an inside room when I’m sailing solo as it semi-justifies paying double and getting double credits. It’s so dark and quiet in the room at night, it’s like a return to the womb. rp23g7 Posted November 8, 2014 #46 Share Posted November 8, 2014 by chance, is there anyone you can talk to in L115 Obstructed Balcony cabin? and maybe some pictures? We have it in a year and just wondering what is obstructed about it.
Rare taxatty Posted November 9, 2014 Author #47 Share Posted November 9, 2014 by chance, is there anyone you can talk to in L115 Obstructed Balcony cabin? and maybe some pictures? We have it in a year and just wondering what is obstructed about it. That's a long way from my cabin--sorry. I can guarantee you that between now and then, you'll see lots of links to pictures here. I really enjoyed the entertainment today. The Love Boat actors had a sit-down discussion with the CD (an old favorite, Ron Goodman) in the Princess Theatre, and had a lot of interesting, insightful things to say about themselves and the show. When I encountered them on the ship, they were gracious and outgoing. It was nice to have them onboard. They announced that the Regal will be recreated as a Princess float for the next Rose Parade, with the Love Boat crew being on it. The evening show in the Princess Theatre (“Spectacular”) was the typical disjointed musical revue we’re all used to on Princess. However, this is an exceptionally talented group of singers and dancers, and they made the show quite enjoyable, along with some creative sets. Jane Cho, a rock violinist, was then in the Vista Lounge. Nothing like Led Zeppelin on the violin! The service has been outstanding the entire cruise all over the ship, including Amy, my cabin steward. I didn’t walk by a single crew member without being greeted. Unfortunately, most of us have to leave tomorrow morning. As a bottom-line, the Regal isn't perfect, but it’s absolutely a wonderful ship and the pride of the fleet.
