I got a press release the other day from Silversea that I thought might interest the members of this forum. Here's a slightly edited version:

SILVERSEA CRUISES ANNOUNCES ONLINE BOOKING OF SHORE EXCURSIONS PLUS "SILVER COLLECTION" EXPERIENCES

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Silversea Cruises has announced that guests can now enjoy the added convenience of reserving their shore excursions online. Starting with this year's Alaska and Mediterranean itineraries, guests can visit the ultra-luxury line's Web site and pre-book their shore excursions with the click of a button.

Silversea is also enhancing its program of award-winning shore adventures with exclusive new Silver Collection tours that provide an enriching and in-depth exploration of local history and culture. These inspired and unique cultural experiences include private openings of galleries and museums, cooking classes with celebrated chefs, private helicopter sightseeing, and visits to venues that are often inaccessible to the general public.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer these new options to our guests," said Jim Droney, Silversea's Director of Land Programs. "By giving guests the ability to take care of their shore excursions in advance, we're giving them the freedom and convenience to board ship and just relax and settle into their cruise; there's no need to worry about getting to the Tour Desk in time to review and secure excursions."

Added Droney, "With our new Silver Collection tours, we're offering a dramatically enhanced array of shore experiences that will hold great appeal for those guests who seek out exceptional cultural encounters and enrichment through their travels. Our goal is always to go above and beyond, and that is what these new shore programs are all about."

To take advantage of the new online booking feature for shore excursions, which is available 60 days prior to sailing, guests (or their travel agents) can simply visit Silversea's Web site at www.silversea.com, find their cruise, and if a "Reserve Now" button appears above "Shore Excursions" on the right side, then the online booking option is available. Once a shore excursion is reserved online, the cost of the tour is subsequently charged to the guest's shipboard account during their cruise. The option is not available within two weeks of sailing, though guests will still be able to book their excursions, depending on availability, once they have embarked their cruise.

**"Silver Collection" offers exclusive travel experiences**

This year, in addition to offering over 1,800 different shore excursions worldwide, Silversea is rolling out a collection of very exclusive shore experiences in select ports of call. The new Silver Collection is a selection of carefully tailored cultural experiences that offer guests rare access to unique events and extraordinary sightseeing opportunities. Highlights of the Silver Collection include a private cooking lesson in Taormina, Sicily, at the restored 18th-century home of noted culinary author Eleonora Consoli; an evening of fine dining and wine tasting in Bordeaux at the Schÿler family's Château Kirwan, an elegant estate, vineyard and winery located in the heart of the famous Médoc wine region; and a fly-out adventure to Alaska's Chatham Strait where guests have the rare privilege to witness humpback whales bubble-net feed (an incredible phenomenon where whales form a veil of bubbles to entrap fish). The number of participants is usually limited on Silver Collection tours and guests are encouraged to book as early as possible.

Silversea Cruises is recognized as an innovator in the luxury segment, offering guests large-ship amenities aboard four intimate vessels, Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, and Silver Whisper, all designed to offer an atmosphere of conviviality and casual elegance. For the seventh consecutive year, Silversea Cruises was named best small-ship line in the 2002 readers' survey conducted by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. For the fifth time, Silversea was selected "Number One" small-ship line in Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2003. 2004 will be an exciting year as Silversea celebrates its 10th anniversary. Look for upcoming announcements about gala events and special programs to celebrate the line's ten years of excellence.
