Etchdreams Posted December 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2014 We got off the Liberty yesterday, and I will say that I was a little let down. There were 11 of us and we all had the same concerns. Now let me say the Ship is Beautiful, and the staff and crew were wonderful. It was the constant vibration the whole 7 days which was more noticeable in some parts of the ship then others. Like something out of balance. Then the food did not seem up to part. Guys Burgers was good, and fast service, Fish & Chips was good, a little greasy, but it's fried right. I'm talking about the Main Dinning Room and the buffet. There is something lost by having the same menu every night (except the port of call section). It was fun when you received the menu and you opened it up to see what you could order. We noticed that there were a lot of empty spaces every night and some at our table only ate in the MDR once. I think the American Table is a bust, they need to rethink it. Then the buffet seemed it had the same offerings every day. I have to be gluten free, and there was not a single day that I could go thru the buffet. I have read others post about the food, and I know to each his own as far as taste, so I hope it was just bad timing on my part. Other then that it was a fun vacation. tommycruiser11 Posted December 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2014 I totally have to dis-agree with your comments. We were on it 2 weeks ago, and felt absolutely no vibrations that you did. We loved the new menu, as did the other 8 people at out table in the MDR. We all agreed that it was time for a change. As far as the buffet, we did not really go to it that often. KPfromCT Posted December 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2014 Glad to hear that you loved the ship, herself.:D Food is always so subjective. :o We are looking at the Liberty for June, out of San Juan. She always gets rave reviews.:D Thanks for posting your opinion!!!!!

But everyone was talking about the vibrations. Hope they figure out the problem, it was like the pitch of the props were incorrect and not in sync. You will love the ship, and the service. MCC retired Posted December 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2014 Just got off the Liberty yesterday also . Have to disagree about the vibration complaint. Our deck 8 balcony toward aft was smooth and steady. Small vibration extreme aft of the Silver Dinning room when we were at Brunch. (Loved the idea of a dinning room serving Brunch until 1pm on sea days). Had My Time Dinning and always had to wait for a table for 2 ,with a beeper . Agree the Lido buffet items were not inviting for lunch or dinner especially. Were we on the same cruise ? Butterbean1000 Posted December 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2014 I love the Liberty. Out of all the food I had on that cruise, the only thing I was dissatified with was the Reuben, it was very fatty.
Markanddonna Posted December 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2014 I was on the Liberty from Nov 28- Dec 6 and the vibration felt by many, many passengers was the theme of the eight days. When we greeted others around the ship, that was usually the thing that was mentioned. I have NEVER been seasick on any cruise before, including two transatlantics but this was my first where I felt queasy at times. I've been on the ocean when it was quite turbulent but the problems on the Liberty were not from the ocean. BTW- we saw few officers around. I suspect they didn't want to be questioned about this problem. I didn't have problems with the food. We thought the food in the MDR was pretty good. The buffet was same old, same old. Unexciting. The lackluster entertainment was much more of an issue. We had fun but not because of much help from Carnival. If your previous Liberty sailing didn't have the vibration issues, consider yourself lucky.
poison7fl Posted December 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) I was on the Liberty a couple weeks ago and the vibrations were pretty intense at time, and mild at other times, but always present. Others disagree, but there was no mistaking it because guest services acknowledged it when I took them to my room to complain. Typical fans said that it was "rough seas" and "stabilizers" but those were going in the bay or in port when the vibrations were still felt. However, if you went to the back of the ship and watched the wake, you could see it was way off, one side was pushing more. I feel your pain about the vibrations.. My post about this: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2135573 . . . Edited December 21, 2014 by poison7fl

But two weeks ago on the Liberty, I couldn't even eat it, mine was all fat too... First time I have ever thrown away a whole sandwich!

Remember folks, we don't all have the same feelings towards a ship, it's subjective. I thought Liberty was the ugliest ship I've been on. I don't recall vibrations or at least it didn't bother me enough to remember. The stewards were great. I gave up the DR due to slow service. Prof Peg Posted December 21, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 21, 2014 i would agree with the comments on the ship. We had a really great time and certainly didn't let the menu keep us from gaining weight. However, yes--there was a LOT of vibration and we were in a suite. I even mentioned to DH that it felt like we had "put a quarter in the box by the bed." (Anyone old enough to remember those??) During our cruise in Sept., we lost power a few times too, but just in the casino area as far as I know. Cruising is such fun, there are always new experiences!! ParRoo Posted December 22, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I'll be on the Liberty for New Years. Not liking the sound of the vibration problems. We'll be mid ship, deck 6. Keeping my fingers crossed!

cruizinisthebest Posted December 22, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I don't know that I would rank decor the exact same as itinerary; especially sailing with Carnival, but I have heard the Liberty is a nice looking ship. On the other hand I know several folks who have cruised on the Pride that loved that particular type of decor. And no they aren't "old" folks. So yes everything is very subjective. Yes, I am one of those cruisers where the décor of the ship is just as important as the itinerary.:D No, I've not been on Pride. I had no idea what Liberty looked like when my friend and I booked. We just didn't "click". I had hoped to book NCL Spirit when she gets here at Canaveral next fall. That ship has lots of wood because it's an older recycled ship, but the price for now prohibits booking as a solo.

okgirl Posted December 22, 2014 #19 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I've been on several ships that have heavy vibrations at various times, and I'm always aware of a low deep vibration that I've always associated with the engines just doing their thing. I can usually tell we've arrived in port even from my inside cabin because that low vibration disappears. I have not gotten to have the American Table/Feast menu. But I was surprised that the OP thought it lacked variety. I just looked at the menu's and there were at least 4 new appetizer choices and 4-5 different main dish selections every night. The standards were there too, and were repeated every night, but it looks like there were plenty of new dishes every night.
skyeman27 Posted December 22, 2014 #20 Share Posted December 22, 2014 Just back from Liberty, noticed minor vibes Lido aft and MDR on sea day brunch, not an annoyance. American Table not too much different than old menu, still had table cloths. Nice ship...
markmbsc Posted December 22, 2014 #21 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I'll be on the Liberty for New Years. Not liking the sound of the vibration problems. We'll be mid ship, deck 6. Keeping my fingers crossed! I was just on the Liberty deck 6, room 6392. I felt no vibrations in the room at all but it definitely felt it in the casino. It was the only place I really noticed it, otherwise it's a beautiful ship and a wonderful cruise. Don't worry and have a great time.

Keeping my fingers crossed! I was midship in room 6373, and had to be moved due to the vibrations and being over the casino band stage... good luck...the music is loud and goes most of the night. I could hear it about 50 rooms away, each way in the hallway too, so it must be in the other rooms.
newcruiser08820 Posted December 22, 2014 #24 Share Posted December 22, 2014 We just re-booked Liberty from Dream for $ 200 fee due to better itinerary. And still cheaper by almost $ 300 between two cabins. I read reviews going back 6 month and nobody mentioned vibration. I get extremely sea sick . Have not purchase airfare yet. Waiting for more reviews to see if vibration issue would be resolved .
katiel53 Posted December 22, 2014 #25 Share Posted December 22, 2014 We went on the Liberty in September and I didn't notice the vibrations, but that doesn't mean there weren't any. What I don't understand is that one part of the menu has the same items nightly, but the other part has different foods every night. I don't understand how you could say the foods were the same every night except for the port of call part. I wish all ships had the American table menu as I loved the Beef Wellington and the Veal Parmesan. Those were not on the everyday menu, they were on the menu for a day and only that day. I don't know how you didn't see the other things and I am not trying to be snarky, but there were different things nightly.
