vandalayceo Posted December 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Looking at South American cruises. Prices for the following- (Cnd$ Pricing) Ruby Feb. 18 Rio to LA,31 days, $4317 (taxes etc. inc.) Ruby Feb. 21 Buenos Aires to LA, 28 days (obviously same cruise as above, first port after Rio.)-$4949. So if I board in Rio, get 3 extra days, I save $632? Damn, might even pay for my bar bill!! Inconsistencies seem the norm for the Princess pricing these days...... We have seen things like this a lot lately (like in the last few months) as we keep checking what will work for our next cruise. SoCal Cruiser78 Posted December 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) What is the difference in airfares between LA to Rio vs. LA to Buenos Aires, assuming you are flying one-way to the ship? That might be the "gotcha". Edited December 29, 2014 by Ryndam2002

That might be the "gotcha". Brazil requires a visa for US citizens. I'm not sure about Canadians. Argentina also requires a fee to enter. The total is $320.00. Not going to Brazil would save $160. The pricing on the two cruises makes no sense to me, but Princess stumps me rather often.
Disconnections Posted December 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Fewer staterooms may be available for the shorter segment.
RickEk Posted December 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Cabins are allocated for each voyage. Apparently the 31-day voyage isn't selling as well as the 28-day (folks are probably taking into account the visa situation, etc.) so it is cheaper... at the moment. CruisingJs Posted December 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 29, 2014 We took a cruise that could either be booked as 14 or 17 days. They offered better prices and more cabins on the longer cruise to encourage people to book the longer itinerary.
Hawaiidan Posted December 29, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 29, 2014 The hidden city fare is well known to many travelers. As an example if you fly SFO to Tokyo is would be $850 pp However flying to INC korea is only $595.... you have a free stop over in on direction... so fly to Korea spend the night and hop to Tokyo for $250 cheaper Then there are the route sales....United was offering rt Business/first tickets to Buenos aires for $1850rt... and Coach was selling for $2350rt Pays to ro research on see where the sales/deals are
