cruzmann Posted January 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Can't find information in any threads here about these two activities. More importantly I need to have input from a cruiser who has been on the Norwegian Star for the Panama Canal cruise who can tell me what time I can get off the ship. The Whale watch tour I can go to is only offered at 8:15 as we leave at 2:00. Also I don't have any info about where we really dock. Comments about Whale Watch Cabo and Cabo Skytours also appreciated. Thanks for your help and Happy Cruising in 2015

Thanks for your help and Happy Cruising in 2015 The time you can get off the Star will depend on when the ship is cleared and when the tendering starts. They issue tender tickets and the information will be in the Freestyle Daily. I would suggest getting in line about 30 minutes or more before the time they show in the daily. Having said that, I can assure you that you can get a whale watching tour onshore almost anytime. There are many vendors just off the dock selling all types of tours at very reasonable prices. They all know where the whales are likely to be, and most of the tour boats go to the same locations. We were on a glass bottom boat going out to the arch a couple of years ago, and some whales came by so the boat operator followed them for about three miles. We got a fabulous whale watching trip, and he got a very good tip !!!! Edited January 5, 2015 by swedish weave
cruzmann Posted January 7, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 7, 2015 Thought it was tender port but still would like to know where the tenders dock as there are several places in the basin area that I'd like to walk to. Good tip on the availability of whale watching. I want something with small boats or Zodiacs though as my experience with the bigger boats in both Hawaii and Alaska tell me that size matters in a reverse manner. PekingeseLady Posted January 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2015 I'm not on NCL but am going on Carnival with a 7am to 2pm Cabo time. I am using the ship excursion, it is 15 dollars more then booking online tour company, but I don't have to worry about the tender. I won't have to get in line 30 min. early in hopes of getting on one of the first tenders so I can get to my excursion in time. I am lucky as we do have a Zodiac Whale watching tour. I have used these folks before http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/Whale-Watching.htm

PekingeseLady Posted January 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) in cabo jan 22 our group of 8 would like to go but some concern about sea condition is it easy to get off and the find tour??? or do we have to book aheadthanks for info Are you talking about the tours I posted a link too? If so the answer is yes. I would book a head, as they to can fill up. They will send you a map of the marina with the Slip you'll need to show up at your designated time. It is a bit of a walk, so I would just hire a water taxi to take you all to the end of the marina where the slip is located. You can probably get a water taxi to Zip all 8 of you over for ten bucks. The Tender boats drop you off on a dock area of the marina closest to opening to the bay. You can then walk the Marina around, souviners and restaurants on your way. This is the way you walk to get to the streets of Cabo, As for sea conditions they should be just fine, when the seas are bad you could even lose this stop, as they cant tender you in with bad sea conditions. redhot1 Posted January 15, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2015 We were just there for a new years cruise, we have done the zodiac whale watching twice now and its fantastic. You get up real close and really see alot of whales and the boats hold about 12 people and are very quick and manueverable. not real expensive either about $75.00 off the ship.:):):)
downsized Posted January 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2015 If it were me, (and we have been there, done that), I would book through the cruise line. The cost will be a bit more, but you will be escorted to the front of the line for the tender (that alone might save you an hour, or more), will be taken directly to (and from) the excursion, and you will not have to be concerned about returning too late, as the ship will not leave without you. Also, if there are any problems, NCL will take care of it. If the ship is delayed, for any reason, you will not be billed. If you were on a cruise where you had all sorts of time, booking the excursion on your own would almost certainly be cheaper. Just my $0.02Pesos worth. redhot1 Posted January 17, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 17, 2015 I agree 100% with downsize. Booking thru the cruise line for a mojor excursion is always a safer bet. If it were paresailing which is an hour then off the pier but even tho the cost is a little more from the ship it is better with the cruise line. I do remember several years ago where a cruise passenger took a excursion off the pier to the arc and the boat capsized and a passenger was dead and the cruiseline was not responsible at all. So do keep that in thought also.:):):)
greenscooter Posted January 30, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Flying with Ernesto in a powered hang glider over Lands End (El Arco) and our cruise ship was one of the most unforgettable things I ever did on a cruise. The views are just breathtaking! Ernesto loves flying and sharing the experience with others. For anybody visiting Cabo, this is one experience that, IMO, should not be missed!
