lives to cruise Posted January 25, 2015 #51 Share Posted January 25, 2015 What IS the smoking side? Starboard? I want to make sure. Thank you. :) I believe it is but I have asked a Carnival employee that I know to check out the smoking areas on the Vista. I don't want to give out wrong information. I was told that I should get that information in a few days. I'll let you know. :)
Over Land & Sea Posted January 25, 2015 #52 Share Posted January 25, 2015 I love the layout of these suites and the idea of a private pool area, but so many potential negative issues are nagging me. As previously mentioned late night music in the evening from the bar and footfall from when the area is open to all. Also potential noise etc. from the nearby Plaza bar. Both bars would require staff activity in the wee small hours for clearing down, transporting stock, removing rubbish and setting up in the morning. Then there is the scrubbing down of the pool area and pool maintenance. What many people are referring to as a balcony appears to be more of a patio, if the design could have allowed that area to be a balcony it would have been great. No throwing open the curtains first thing to look at where we've docked without a quick wardrobe visit! I plan to book for Vista's inaugural season but with concerns about Havana & family harbour suites may have to go with a grand suite for the family. I have put a deposit on the 6/11 in a Cabana, but I'm just not sure that's where we'll end up. I love my private quiet balcony time at night with a book and glass of wine. While it's not a deal killer, I think for me personally it might be startling/annoying to have people walking by my 'porch'. I think we might move to a spa balcony. Still thinking...
MiMiof2 Posted January 26, 2015 #54 Share Posted January 26, 2015 I have a relative that attended the NY event and asked many questions regarding the Havana Cabanas, as she is booked in one of the suites. She was told that access to the outside of the deck near the patios is regulated by key entry to only Havana guests. The pool is for Havana guests only until 5PM, and then opens to all. However, they will have to enter the pool area through the Havana Bar, and will have no access to the patio areas of the Havana Cabanas. So, yes, you may have people passing by your patio area, but it will only be other Havana guests.

lives to cruise Posted January 27, 2015 #56 Share Posted January 27, 2015 For those that are interested in the smoking policy on the Vista, here is the official posting Please note that after earlier discussions, we have designated the following locations where smoking will be permitted on the Carnival Vista: • Deck 4 – Interior Space – Casino & Casino Bar • Deck 11 – Exterior Space – Port side Aft

I admit at first blush the idea of the pool and the hammocks had me really excited and then I thought wait...I can't just lull about and watch the water quietly from my balcony? DTC Posted February 14, 2015 #60 Share Posted February 14, 2015 How about waking up some morning & finding someone sleeping/passed out on your balcony/patio!! Do the gates have a decent lock? And even if they did they dont look very tall!!??[emoji16][emoji15]. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
legion3 Posted February 15, 2015 #61 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Also, those nice aft balcony rooms, just lost a little bit of luster to me. Yes you get to have a nice big balcony but since the back of the ship sticks out further now you are just peeping on the select guest in the Havana pool. All the privacy that once was a highlight of an aft balcony is no gone since people on the pool deck will be able to watch you just as you are watching them. I'm also concerned a little bit by the privacy and security of these open patio/balcony rooms. I would hate to open my shades in the morning and see someone just standing out there or late in the evening with people walking on deck 5 getting loud since now there will be a bar down it that area. yep, the aft balconies are now hotel balconies with a pool view, with the added annoyance that it's not a pool you can use. ;) Until 5PM... How about opening your shades in the morning and having a drunk or two sleeping in your hammocks...

Then if that's the case then why not have the patios go all the way to the railing? That way privacy is taken care of and you get a better view of the sea. Hmm, sounds like CCL doublespeak perhaps. Won't know till people sail in those cabins I guess.
bridgetjonesni Posted February 15, 2015 #65 Share Posted February 15, 2015 If the patios went all the way to the railing, those of us in the interior Havana cabins wouldn't be able to wander about on deck near our rooms. If it's any consolation we will have no interest in breaking into anyone's patios though.
SteelMagnolia9 Posted February 15, 2015 #66 Share Posted February 15, 2015 I just booked one of the suites today. 5 nights leaving Dec. 11, 2016 from Miami. Looking forward to being on the new ship and in the private pool area. I'm not going to worry in advance about anything, just going and have a great time! I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I want to be 5 or 6 feet from the oceanview or not and how I feel about having to dress prior to opening my slider curtains, etc. Decisions...decisions... zzmaxwell Posted February 17, 2015 #69 Share Posted February 17, 2015 Well, I took the plunge today and booked my first ever Carnival cruise and the whole reason I made the switch was the intrigue of these cabins. I did ask questions and they did say access was limited until the 5 p.m. but the access to our balcony/patio whichever you choose to call it was just for people booked in the balcony/suite Havana rooms anytime day or night. We love our balcony rooms but that area primarily for us looks simply amazing and not having to fight for a nice lounge may keep me coming back time and time again to Carnival. Also, I have to say my booking today was the best I've ever had with any of the cruises I've ever booked and I'm sorry I took opinions of many others to not even try Carnival. It was an awesome experience and I can't wait to hear from others on their experience in these rooms. Have a great day! Robin

I also booked a cruise today in one of these cabins - the Havana Cabana. I'm still a little wary of whether or not these lanais will really be locked down to all but Havana guests. Since I booked a November 2016 cruise I figure I'll have a good six months to figure out what's going on and switch to a balcony cabin if need be (assuming they're not all booked). We're pretty easy to please, so I just decided to go for it. This will be my 11th Carnival cruise although it's our first since 2012. I'm actually excited to get back on Carnival. It's been a while. I'd like to see what changes have taken place. So excited! Cindy
zzmaxwell Posted February 18, 2015 #71 Share Posted February 18, 2015 I'm with you Cindy! So Excited!!!! :) Sure hope these rooms live up to all the hype. I'm with you, though, there is still plenty of time to make changes if need be but I'm pretty sure I'll stick with this plan and try it myself because after my business with Carnival today I've realized we need to experience everything for ourselves and not listen to others because we all experience things so differently. My husband and I are so very easy to please and really have never had a cruise not be enjoyable even when it rains so I'm thinking we are gonna love not having to race up top early to snag a decent chair for some nice sunshine. That's really all that makes me happy anyways! ;) That and a cute cabana boy delivering me something cool to drink while I lay in said chair. It's the little things!:) Thanks for the nice welcome as well! Take care! Robin

Velvetwater Posted February 18, 2015 #73 Share Posted February 18, 2015 The balcony price with limited privacy (even if it is other Havana guests) is a deal breaker for me with these cabins. I will be in port til 5pm most days anyway so the limited pool access (the only thing I really want) will not be an issue. I hope people who book these enjoy them though.
