cruiz30 Posted February 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2015 4 people looking to fly from NYC airports preferably EWR to SEA late August 2015. The non-stop price now is $409.00. Any thoughts whether or not the price will go down at all if I wait to purchase?
klfrodo Posted February 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2015 What reasons would you see for the prices to drop? Limited flights, limited seats, limited inventory. As flights book,,,,seats become more limited which means seat costs will only become more expensive.
Globaliser Posted February 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Any thoughts whether or not the price will go down at all if I wait to purchase? Here are mine: yes, no and maybe. Unfortunately, that's what buying air tickets is like. The better questions to ask yourself are these:- With a yes or no answer only, is $409 an unacceptable price to you? If you wait to see whether prices drop, what is an acceptable price to you? If the prices drops to $359, will that be acceptable and will you buy it then, or will you continue to hang on because the price might drop again? If $409 is unacceptable to you, and you don't buy the $409 ticket now, and you wait to see whether prices drop but prices rise to $509, will $409 suddenly become an acceptable price to you? (Of course, you won't be able to get the $409 price then, just as you can't get a $359 price now.) Unfortunately, too many people who ask this question think that $409 is only an acceptable price if they can be guaranteed that nobody will pay a lower price later. That's like trying to catch a falling knife.
cruiz30 Posted February 22, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Thank you for your responses... Having not been on an airplane since 2007 and having no idea what airfare to Seattle from NYC should cost I just wanted some ideas. Thanks again. CruiserBruce Posted February 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2015 To add to what the others have said, $409 isn't all that bad a price.
Rare Gardyloo Posted February 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Apply for an Alaska Airlines-branded Visa card from Bank of America - https://www.bankofamerica.com/credit-cards/products/alaska-airlines-credit-card.go - and get 25K Alaska miles (good for Alaska, American, Delta, many overseas carriers) and an annual $99 companion ticket - one (coach) ticket on Alaska Airlines at any published price, a second one for $99 plus tax ($121 usually). Alaska flies nonstop from Newark to Seattle, so say $530 ($409+$121) divided by 2 = $265 per ticket. Decent airline, too.
cruiz30 Posted February 22, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Funny you should mention credit card rewards... I was looking at getting United or American Airlines card for just that reason.
scottbee Posted February 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2015 2nd advantage of Alaska Airlines, if the price drops you can claim the difference as a future credit.

Would you be willing to pay more if you wait and it goes up instead of down?
